January 2022 timetable changes

Post by hillsbus »

Does anyone know if there will be changes to AdMet timetables in January....besides the School Service changes already announced?

I can't see any changes happening until after the state election.

Personally I cannot see any timetable changes until the work on electrification of the Gawler Line is finished and is up and running. Surely they will be able to decrease travel times for Gawler line uses with the EMU's able to travel up to a maximum speed of 110kph compared to the DMU's of 90kph!

It's not often the Seaford trains get above 90km/h apart from the outer end of the line and through the Adelaide Parklands (unless running express - but even then speeds are dictated by curves and level crossings). But yes - hopefully there will be some speed improvements, but probably unlikely until the full fleet of electric trains are in service.

I think any improvements to be had would be more in the acceleration and deceleration ability of the new EMUs over their diesel counterparts, not the top speed, particularly on lines with close-spaced stations.

Or just closing stations like Greenfields would help... but we won't get into that debate :)

There is a list under the heading of "Summer Holiday Timetables" of 150 am and pm weekday services that are cancelled during this time.
Only Torrens Transit services are listed.

I had a look at the "Summer Holiday Timetables" for the Adelaide Hills & it's only some of the 861/863F/T863/864F/T840 & 840X service's that aren't running. Once you've typed in the bus route & it come's up with the whole days' service's, then you have to look through them carefully to see which one's have been removed during the January period.

Sounds really passenger-friendly...

Do passenger numbers collapse during the January period exclusively, or are similar declines experienced each school holidays?

In the case of the former, is this decline associated with commuters having the aggravation of service cuts and needing to find alternative transport?
Should the latter be the case, why not alter the timetable to show the services that do not run each holidays, or, services that do run, but have highly variable times due to student traffic?

This is the first year they have reduced services for the whole of January - the website is quoting a 20% reduction in patronage for January. Considering most unis are on holidays, and many workplaces encourage annual leave over this time I am inclined to believe it, although don’t necessarily agree with reducing bus services.

This year is probably an exception, I guess there won’t be as many cancelations if/when bus drivers are isolating from Covid-19. The increased number of people working from home probably means there won’t be much opposition to reducing services.

I would have thought they could at least publish a reduced timetable, like they do for the Christmas Day-New Years Day reductions.
First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).
Last person on 164, 867, 868

I can think of a few acronyms that equate to GTFS but I'm guessing none of them are the ones the inventors wanted.

501, 502, 502X will now be servicing all stops on Montague Rd (between Walkleys Rd and Bridge Rd).

And time points on some services (only a few) have been shifted or removed. H30, H23, 451,452,461,462

These changes are very minor, and wont affect a lot of people.
Nevertheless Adelaide Metro normally advise on their website of any changes, and reprint timetables(all a couple of weeks before the changes occur).
Nothing on their website as yet. I assume you found out via a notice at the Depot.
With 17 extra school services in both the am and pm I would imagine every service bus will be in use?

Absolutely nothing on the website or route page about the M44 change which is strange... why would they waste resources on printing notices relevant to a very small number of passengers boarding on those stops? The posters were put up yesterday and are just in plain text saying there will be minor timetable changes as a result.

37E on North side on Montague Road is right by the turning lane.

Moving 452 time point to womma station does make sense , if anything it sure be timed to meet with the train.
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.

Stop 37E Montague Rd (north side) still not serviced by 501/502 between 0700-0900 and 1600-1800, I assume because of its proximity to the right turn lane into Walkleys Rd
