SYDNEY CURFEW
I complained to Air Services about a flight which took off from Mascot during the curfew. I got a 3-page letter in response. It seems there are many exemptions available to circumvent the curfew, including, of course, medical emergencies. Given the wide discretion granted to the bloke in the control tower I'm surprised there aren't more flights within Mascot's curfew hours.

The Sydney curfew is in place because the people that live in the parts of the inner west that are directly under the flight path would complain if there are planes landing and taking off 24/7

In which direction did the flight take off? They usually take off to the south so that has nothing to do with the inner west.

Adelaide Airport also has a curfew. Certain models of aircraft are exempt - Australian Air Express and Toll overnight interstate freight use these aircraft (BA-146 ? ) The flying doctor is also exempt, not sure if it's from that category or medical. The police helicopter seems to also operate in curfew. Otherwise, the airlines are allowed a small number of curfew incursions per month, and I think they pay if they use those before being blanket banned for the rest of the month. There are also restrictions on which runway is used during curfew. Curfew shoulders are easier to get permission than clearly flouting it.

I was on a delayed flight from Melbourne a couple of years ago. The pilot claimed not to have confirmed approval to land until we were more than half way there, otherwise we'd have had to turn round and try again in the morning. I don't think they were considering alternate landings such as Edinburgh, Parafield or even Mount Gambier.

Further to the story about Qantas bringing back 10 of their Airbus A380's into service. The first one arrives in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon.
This particular one has been in Germany awaiting maintenance, but Qantas will now have that done here in their Hanger 96. The remaining Qantas A380's are stored in the US.

Meanwhile Singapore Airlines has commenced the scrapping of two of their A380's at the Changi Exhibition Centre. (9V-SKH & 9V-SKG) This is happening in house due to border restrictions and dismantling costs and is expected to take 2 months.

Update: Due into Sydney at 3pm, should get evening news coverage.

Something a little different. After 40 years of service the RAAF has retired its FA-18A's 'Classic'. This is from youtube and a farewell flying display at Williamstown yesterday by the 2nd oldest aircraft in the fleet A21-2. The pilot is Group Captain Easthope. Apparently only 4 aircraft were lost in that period of service, the last nearly 30 years ago.

PS: Turn the volume up - not as good though as being there in real life !

I counted 8 aircraft above tonight's 9pm fireworks over Sydney Harbour. I found that more interesting than the fireworks, which seemed to be the same as last year's.......

Guess this can carry over into 2022, doesn't really need an end date?

Maybe need to delay that next flight for a couple of weeks?:

Brisbane Times---> Giants of the sky to return to Brisbane in ‘sign of confidence’ for tourism sector
The world’s largest passenger jet will reappear in Brisbane’s skies next month, as travel demand continues to rise in the wake of Australia’s border reopening to international tourists.

Emirates will reinstate Airbus A380 services to Brisbane Airport from March 1, linking the Queensland capital to its Dubai hub.

The Chronicle---> Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport a port for new low-cost airline Bonza, will fly to Whitsundays, Townsville and Melbourne
Toowoomba residents will soon have the choice to fly to Melbourne, Townsville and the Whitsundays for cheap, after low-cost airline Bonza announced Wellcamp Airport as one of its new ports.

The newly-launched carrier will run eight new flights out of Toowoomba every week as part of its inaugural route.

It is a coup for Wellcamp owner Wagner Corporation, as the airport looks to establish itself as a domestic passenger port alongside its airfreight potential.

Wagner Corp chairman John Wagner said the announcement would expose Toowoomba as a tourism destination to millions more people.

As the privately run ANTONOV 225 goes anywhere in the world would the ANTONOV AN-178 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnN0AwpKZyI be allowed to also as it is only a much needed freight plane.

Often I have thought the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWVbcGtGy0s could just have two big motors like this.

PS
I only just found out the Russians have destroyed the 225
