Tasmanian Bus Observations - JUL > DEC 2021

Post by Tas Bus Nut »

As Busnut704 mentions on previous post, there has been a few vehicle changes across the state in previous months,
particularly within Metro. 812 transferred from Launceston to Hobart in a swap with 892, as 892 fitted with Mobileye technology.
856 transferred from Burnie to Hobart in a swap with 899, again to trial Mobileye technology in the north.
204, 205 & 206 surplus to needs in Burnie & Launceston, so transferred to Hobart.

As at 22 Nov 2021, (5) N113 Oranas are still in regular weekday service - 639, 640, 648, 658 & 659.

The next generation Bustech (Ver1:1) have started arriving in November. Numbered 900 >, 900, 901 & 902
have been delivered by 22 Nov. Features different from previous model include the following noted:
alloy wheels, rear number destination, slope down at rear door (compared with step), two steps to rear of the
bus, bonded windows, updated steering box, updated computer enhanced suspension/brakes, different CCTV.

On the private operators side, Tassielink now have 6 Scania K320UB/Express in service, O'Driscoll Coaches have
numerous new (second-hand) units in service and the biggest news that happened in Septemeber - Calow Coaches
(St Helens) purchased Cresswell Coaches (Hobart) after 75+yrs in the business. Some vehicles have already been
repainted into Calow livery, with all having Cresswell signage removed. Calow #26 (Higer RoadBoss) has been transferred
to Hobart operations.

Point to Pinnacle 2021
The annual Point to Pinnacle went ahead this year, albeit with reduced participants. Only about 3,000 participated this year, down from around 4-5,000 previously. Likewise, the amount of buses used was reduced, with this year, Metro operating only 43 buses and ALL Bustechs. This allowed larger capacity with less buses. (made it boring for those taking photos) It was also noted, O'Driscoll Coaches had 6 buses operating the Point to Pub shuttle, with a variety of low-floor and charter vehicles.
