Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
As I mentioned above, there were various changes to the itinerary, each way, over the years, depending on road and vehicle improvements. The move from the Peterkin Inn at Nambucca Heads to the Plantation Hotel at Coffs Harbour was enabled by the opening of the Dennis Bridge over the Hastings River at Port Macquarie in 1961. One regret (certainly of mine) was to no longer enjoy Ken DeVere's beautifully prepared reef fish breakfasts at Nambucca!

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
For what it's worth I just tried to make a new post, yet for the life of me I now can't figure out how to attach a photo......
Something's changed, but I'm not sure what....
Anyone had the same problem?
Or is it just my senility onset....?

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
Here's a shot that came through too late for inclusion in my book, "Rex Law's Redline - The Biggest Little Bus Co in Australia" which is finally about to be published in print and e-book formats.
The interesting story behind the photo of Laurie MacBeth and the Sydney based mechanic John Edwards in the foreground is contained in Chapter 20, covering the year 1963.
It describes the replacement of No 21's TS3 crankshaft at Renner Springs, NT, during a 22 Day Safari tour. The inverted motor can be seen in the photo after removal from its mounts in the engine/baggage bay.
One half of one of the TS3's side rocker arms is very visible below John's hand.
Note the sloping section of the dividing partition, beside Laurie, on the saloon side of which was mounted the fixed rear seat back.

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
Hello all,
Letting the board know that my 400 page book about Rex Law and Redline is now published and available for purchase.
At the same time I need to advise that the end publishing arrangements resulted from my having to take the path of least financial resistance, leading to the book being published and printed in the USA, with associated higher costs added to local Aussie transactions.
As you will see in the attached video slide promo, I've set up my own website, which is still under construction, from where I soon hope to directly offer locally printed copies at substantially discounted rates in comparison with the US printed versions.
I'll keep the board informed about this.
Here's the local Amazon page where the book is currently available:
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/16 ... 6d5c4127a5
It will soon be available from Amazon as an E Book as well, which I'll also update.

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
400 pages, what a great effort!!
I have just ordered the book from Amazon and honestly the cost is fine - I do look forward to receiving it.
It is wonderful that you took the trouble to get, what must be, a comprehensive history of Redline published, otherwise this information would be lost for ever.
Thank you!

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
I am sure that I will enjoy the book and no doubt feel very humbled at the struggles and the effort that had to go into the running/operating of, in the end, such a large organisation - Rex Law was obviously an amazing man and to have operate in those dreadful road conditions is something that would not be easily understood by our overseas bus enthusiasts!!
Well done again, Glenn!!

Hi Glenn
Well done I am fortunate that my now 92 year old uncle was a driver for Rex and I have his Redline Divers Folder.
It is one of my few treasures.

Great to hear you have a connection between your uncle and his Redline days mate.
What is his name?

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
Just received the book, "Rex Law's Redline" and I have only had a chance to have a quick skip through, but it looks absolutely fascinating, in a very "readable" style, with plenty of illustrations and even a fleet list - well done.
I very much look forward to reading it (once I have finish reading "Maidstone & District").
If you have an interest in buses, particularly the history long distance bus travel in Australia, I would highly recommend this book - despite having not read it, as yet!!!

Upper shot is the Superior bodied Ford R226 No 110 or 111.
Middle shot is another Superior bodied R226.
Lower shot is a Watt Bros R226, maybe ex-Redline No 88.

Hi Looselion
Sorry for the delay. My Uncle name is Robert Streeter. He worked for Rex for quite a long time.
His memory is fuzzy now but I have talked about his time with Redline many times. He said when Rex was trying to get him to do an extra trip or something different
He would say Come on Bob you know I am relying on you and he then found he could not refuse and off he would go.

Re: Rex Law's Redline Coaches
I'm sure I can remember his name BDAT.....
Yes, those who knew him knew very well that Rex had a way with words and could sell a fridge to an eskimo.....always at the right price, mind you!
