Bustech CDI 1790

Post by Tim Williams »

This bus seems to have vanished - it was parked in the "dead row" at Morphettville depot (next to the fence adjacent to Richmond Road).

Does anyone know of its whereabouts? - I know that there are rumours (just rumours) that it might finish up at Mount Barker, which does make sense, as the necessary roads are cleared of low-hanging tree branches for the Scania DD.

It was at Mile End not Morphettville Depot.
I believe it is having its Jet Bus advertising removed and window guards installed on the front of the upper deck before entering service at Mt.Barker.

I now have it on reasonably good authority that 1790 is definitely being given "the once over" for services from Mount Barker. From the sound of things, the useless local council(s) up there, in the Hills, should do something about the tree branches and I guess the problem is with only 2 route service DD's in Adelaide, little or no effort is going to be put in!

I live at Eastwood and my usual bus route is 861, but I can use the T840 if I get on/off at Frewville (Foodland/Arkaba) - so I feel very fortunate that both DD's will be operating along that corridor.

When was the last time 3401 was out? I haven’t seen it in quite a while

I know there was a new shift cut done, wondering what that will mean for the decker(s)? Lots more T840s now doing 864/835/837/838/839 services before/after city runs

Normally 3401 is a regular performer one one of the T840 shifts but I understand that it is undergoing maintenance at the moment - light loads during school holidays do not need that larger bus capacity etc. Have those other routes mentioned had the necessary tree pruning attended to?

3401 is back in service - just observed it do a 3.30pm departure from Glen Osmond (all stops) to the City on route 861 - doesn't get better than this, a DD on my local service!!

1790 still sitting alongside the Richmond Rd fence at ME depot. JetExpress livery removed but no upper window guards fitted. Sitting behind 1900 which hasn’t been on the road for years.

The standard Bustech CDI windscreen guard (which normally fitted to the nearside only), might be sufficient as the top windscreen is flat and is not right up to sides of these buses. However if it were my decision, I would fit similar guards to those on 3401 - with only 2 DD's here, tree pruning is at a minimum!!

!790 was still at Mile End (last week) and has been fitted with a standard CDI tree guard, on the near side, they do not seem in any hurry to get this bus back in service.

And 3401 is still running on the local 861 route, as of 15 minutes ago!!

The shift it’s assigned to in the PM has been changed, it now consists of 2 round trip 861s (15:00 to G.O, 15:30 to City, 16:00 to G.O, 16:30 to City) and then the 16:56 840X. I assume the morning shift has changed as well but as yet haven’t seen what to.

While it’s good to see it be mixed around, a high-turnover route such as the 861 is not optimal for the decker model of long distance routes with few stops. I imagine dwell times are longer than usual at busy stops on Glen Osmond Rd?

From what I've heard, it was seen on the 9:06AM inbound T840 today, as well as the 10:14 outbound service. I think it did another (T840(?)) round trip not long afterwards.

It was also doing a service from D1 around 3ish, as it had passengers aboard, and then another one at around 4PM (more than likely an 861) then returned, then it did the 840X mentioned above.

Assuming the AM shift hasn't changed it does the following;

840X dep 0710hrs Mt Barker arr 0805hrs City
$ to Mt Barker
T840 dep 0906hrs Mt Barker arr 0952hrs City
T840 dep 1014hrs City arr 1107hrs Mt Barker

1790 has disappeared (again) - unless it has just been moved from fence alongside Richmond Road

Was sent to Aldgate last Thursday and swapped with 3230 which is now Torrens Transit 451.

This photo was taken about an hour ago and shows 3401 on our local (all stops) route 861 City to Glen Osmond - it does several runs per day on this route + some runs on the T840 & 840X (Express services, City to Mt Barker via Glen Osmond). There is no sign, as yet, of the Bustech CDI ex 1790 - it seems to be taking a long time to get it prepared for service at Aldgate.

Photo is not brilliant, being taken against a weak sun!!
