Transdev Melbourne Discussion Thread 2020

Post by JRBUS123 »

Happy new year and welcome to 2020. Thought I jump in and create the Transdev thread for this year.

Out of the 100 buses ordered for Transdev Melbourne, 14 new buses are still yet to be delivered (apparently they will all be out by July 2020).

Regards

A lot of the 100 new buses being ordered have been transferred from North Fitzroy runs to operate route 903's (the early Gemilang batch). They definitely are smartbuses as I have seen photos of them having Smartbus equipment installed.

A lot of the Ex-Melbourne Bus Link buses have also been operating Fitzroy runs 234-237 (I'm not talking about the MBL buses that had already been transferred to North Fitzroy). Didn't think that was usual unless Sunshine depot operate these routes now as well

They have not been transferred to 903 as such but cause Fitzroy has so many they ended up on 903 most days.
Also since late last year 234/5/6/7 is shared with Sunshine Depot

PTV have advised temporary closures on Lonsdale Street causing buses to divert and finish at much earlier stops (basically they are not operating on Lonsdale). This is due to power upgrade works that are taking place. Started this week and Scheduled to end on 16th February
PTV wrote:Lonsdale Street Bus Routes: Temporary bus stop closures from Monday 13 January to Sunday 16 February 2020
Added: 6 January 2020 12:41 PM

Due to Citipower power upgrade works, Bus Routes 200, 207, 250, 251, 302, 303, 304, 305, 309, 318, 350, 905, 906, 907 and 908 will not operate down Lonsdale Street in the CBD from first service Monday 13 January to last service Sunday 16 February.

During this time, Route 200, 207, 250, 251, 302, 303, 304, 305, 309, 318, 350 buses will terminate near the corner of Exhibition Street and Lonsdale Street.

Route 905, 906, 907 and 908 buses will terminate near the corner of Spring Street and Lonsdale Street.

Passengers can walk to Bourke Street to connect with tram services that run adjacent to the regular bus routes.

I understand the reason to do it now since it’s during the summer holidays, but I don’t understand why it will be like this for a month or so. How come so long?

Bus 140 has returned to service, following a rebuild of the front end.

One of Transdev former CB30's has showed up in NSW in flood waters as seen in the link https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-10/ ... s/11948158, seems these units have travelled far.

Yes was interesting when I was assigned this bus a few months ago! When I told the yard bloke that's the bus I had the head on in his chin nearly hit the ground. Asked me if I was ok to drive it and I said yep. Was driving it on a different route to where the accident happened so all good. Was strange driving it and thankfully the mind didn't play any tricks on me lol

Yeah I saw that bus too. Nice to see it back on the road. One key difference I’ve spotted is that it’s now #140, instead of #380140

To keep up to speed, one month ago, Transdev announced a new managing director for Melbourne, replacing Ian Craig. Interesting to elect a new managing director during the covid-19 pandemic

Transdev Melbourne is calling for nominations for its accessibility reference group.

You need to catch Transdev services at least 12 times per year and be a senior or have a disability. Meetings are twice yearly.

Applications close June 30.

Not surprising to be honest (Ive seen some of those listed buses broken down and parked on the side of the road!) I hardly see the Mercedes Benz 0405NH custom Coaches 550 buses on smart bus routes anymore, and that’s probably because of the new bus deliveries

What’s interesting though is that some of those Mercedes 0405NH that Transdev refurbished buses have also been withdrawn (namely 734 and 735)

I hardly see SmartBuses on SmartBus routes these days! Of course though, orange Gemilangs and Optimuseses still count as SmartBuses though since they have the equipment installed. Still find it weird that Transdev is using silver buses on useless routes like the 271 and 380 though while the 906/907 gets crummy old Designlines and Evo 2s without PIDs, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason when what bus goes where these days. Two weeks ago I saw a CR222L on the 380, a long way from its former Melbourne Bus Link depot.

While the Custom 550s are becoming extinct, the Mercedes CB60s are still doing the rounds. I managed to get a random photo of 756 running a 271 outside Eastland on the 23rd.

I don't have a fleet number but doing my usual Ebay check shows that there's an 550 Custom Coaches series Mercedes-Benz bus for sale already up in Queensland, it is mostly white with a bit of the orange livery reaming on the rear right hand side of the bus. I figured with Transdev Melbourne getting rid of their 550 series buses that this is probably one of their ex units.

It is ex Transdev 715, the number is written near the gear selector on the dash shot.

Quite surprising really, but today I spotted bus #300 (yes, the high floor merc 0405  ) out and about this afternoon (although when I saw it was out of service)

I haven’t seen that bus for a long time, probably the first time I even saw it this year! I thought it was already withdrawn given most of the new buses have been delivered and that it’s a high floor, but I’ve been proven wrong

Seems like it's the last standard O405 left in the fleet based on here

Transdev have withdrawn bus 585 (MAN 16.220 Designline) and 574 (MAN 16.240 Custom Coaches CB30) from service, both are currently listed for sale.
Transdev really wasted money installing loop barriers on 574 in the last few months only to sell the unit now. Was a good unit bus 574.

According to the fleetlist, the only one left to go after 574 and 585, is 542.

Although haven’t been out much, I managed to see a few of the new buses out and about, mostly on Orbitals routes
I saw 1193 and 1194 on route 901 and 902 runs, and I’ve seen a few pics of 1198 and 1199 on route 903 runs

AIso noticing a lot more Volvo B7RLE Volgren CR228L’s out and about on DART, although a lot of them appear to be from North Fitzroy depot (easy to tell now, since Transdev added “N” to the bus numbers from 8000 to 8016)

Why exactly are they retiring the MAN CB30s? Don’t they have older buses to retire?

Clearly not a Victorian
