Territory Transit & Buslink protections during Coivd- 19

Post by Darwin bus lover »

Territory Transit has today commenced taping of the front two seats onboard all of its buses in a fight to keep drivers safe and keep the buses on the road. Buslink is yet to do so however it is likely that this will occur soon. Both Buslink and Territory Transit have started issuing "spit screens," to all their drivers. This is welcomed for those drivers at TT as they currently have a full cage design as opposed to Buslink half cage half perspex.

All buses as of 1500 on 26th of March will be free, this is to stop the spread through handling of money. This has been approved by the NTG.

There are currently no changes to timetables or services and buses run as usual all be with lower passenger numbers.

Not a bad move considering the shear majority of passengers use cash on the Darwinbus network (although I'll say this much, there can't be many cities with ticketing equipment that can roll tickets out for a large group as quickly as ones in Darwin! ;) )

Today Buslink has begun taping of the front two seats in line with Territory Transit. Only 2 buses (183 & 195) have been taped as of today but more will be done in the following days.

All of Territory Transit's fleet has now had the front seats sectioned off.

Territroy Transit appears to now be assigning drivers the same bus for second half of their split shift as they take in the first half .

It is still unclear if this is solely because of Coivd - 19 or if it is a new strategy implemented by TT.

This means that drivers on Split Shifts will be more likely to be assigned the same bus. E.g. yesterday 8/4/2020 took 119R for the first half and was assigned 119R again for second half of shift 1224. This has happened consistently for around 2 weeks so this is clearly on purpose rather then a coincidence and applies to a majority of Splits. Most noticeably shift 1204 which now carries the Artic 122A for the full shift.

Next week will be the 4100 & 4200's (school holidays shifts) so it will be interesting to see if this will also be the case during the break and if such will be updated on this page.

As of July 1st, all NT buses will begin taking fares again. NT buses stopped taking fares in March until the end of the financial year. The prior fare schedule will be used, previously updated in 2015 with the exception of Free travel for seniors introduced in 2017.
