[Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Welcome to "Mad March" which is in full swing, with the Superloop Adelaide 500 already upon us and the Festival of Arts and Fringe both in full swing. Daylight Saving finishes at the beginning of April; don't forget to wind your clocks back by an hour on the appointed day.
A "City loop tram" is operating on Friday and Saturday nights during "Mad March", running from South Tce to Festival Plaza, then to Botanic Gardens before returning to South Tce. This service is utilising the two curves on the Eastern side of King William St which are not regularly used in service.
Speaking of trams, this month marks 110 years since electric trams commenced operating in Adelaide; the line to Kensington (via The Parade) was opened on 9 March 1909.
According to a recent newsletter on teh Oaklands Crossing project (https://ptpa-public-assets.s3.amazonaws ... r_2018.pdf), the new rail line should be connected in April; meaning that train substitutes on the Seaford line will be forthcoming - and the end of major traffic delays due to trains.
Football returns to Adelaide Oval soon; with "AO" services running - keep an eye on the Adelaide Metro website for the timetable which shouldn't be too far away.
Please... Post your South Australian transport observations that wouldn't seem to warrant their own thread here.

Those SL202 retirements would be because Scania/BusTechs 1994, 95, 96, 97, and 98 are all on track at Mile End ready for work.

Alberton Railway Station south side building is completely shrouded in scaffolding. Being restored to former glory I guess ?
That's the way the whole thing started, silly but it's true ...

Next few days are going to be interesting and busier than normal for Torrens Transit as it closes its Wingfield Depot?
Will be interested to see which depots end up with additional buses.

New Scania Bustech 1995 (Mile End Depot) had its first run tonight on Womad Shuttles.
1996 was also out and about.

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
I thought I saw 1997 today, but which ever new one it was the rego plate had 'National Heavy Vehicle' wording on it not 'SA Heavy Vehicle'.
Anagram: Timetable - bet I'm late
Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
I noticed today there didn't appear to be any Wingfield buses in service(or should I say ex Wingfield).
I assume buses were being transferred to new depots?

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
All new buses for the past 12 months or so have had National Heavy Vehicle numberplates. Have a look at some of the “older” BusTechs.

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
I'm fairly sure that 1008 was there before this weekend, as I checked the biscuit on it this week and it matched the numbers given to this depot.
BTW, who dictated the movements of the individual vehicles? Is the DPTI or the company?

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
1008 has been at St Agnes till this week I believe.
Torrens Transit is responsible for depot allocation of buses in its fleet. Same applies to Southlink.

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
1008 returned to Port when the 27 January timetables were changed. Same time as 1007 moving to Camden, which has now been swapped with 1009. Some of the 1200s listed have been at St Agnes since 27 January. And the NL diesels have been at St Agnes since Wingfield lost all of their NLs to St Agnes when the Torrens and LCB shifts were amalgamated in October last year. But there was certainly a mass migration of buses between depots on Saturday.

Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Given 1008's disgraceful mechanical condition, it should be sent to Morphettville where it might actually receive some much needed attention. Contacting the company/depot does nothing.
Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Thanks TT for that information. Hopefully now all these changes have happened things will settle down for a while.TT wrote:1008 returned to Port when the 27 January timetables were changed. Of course things could change after July 1st when new contracts are due to start, although no announcements as yet-so it is cutting it fine!
Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Have you heard any rumours about which operators are successful with their tenders,Jibb ??
Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Nothing has been announced as et by the Government.burrumbus wrote:Have you heard any rumours about which operators are successful with their tenders,Jibb ??
Re: [Mar/Apr 2019] SA Transport observations
Thanks jibb.
It will be interesting to see whether the new Liberal government will let a third or fourth operator into the market to keep the two incumbents honest.I am not sure whether the government can extract any cost savings out of the deal.I think they have as low as the operators will run it for.And I doubt if they will pay more to get some more quality in the services. From what I can see and you SA blokes will know is the patronage has flatlined and the government may be looking for other operators to lift the patronage.

The Transport Minister did hint that he was looking at the possibility of 1 operator to run services.burrumbus wrote:Thanks jibb.
