Mk1 Leyland Leopard for sale EOI

Post by Graeme »

I have come to the realisation that I may have to let my treasured bus go.
Restoration, for me, is many years away. I'm already regretting the notion of selling, but I think it is deserved of someone that can spend the time.

PMC body No. 129, built 13 Aug 1968, originally numbered 3650 by STA, the bus spent some time in Newcastle, before becoming a Rutty's bus.
Having spoken recently with the last person to drive it on the open road, I understand that it may have been fitted with the highway diff at is cruised at 100km/h
I have only driven it around my property, and apart from an apparent air leak on the 2nd gear solenoid, it drives very nicely.
Most of the seats have been removed and a few beds installed.
Unfortunately the front door has been closed up, yet the centre door still operates fine.

Options are that the camper conversion be completed, or the bus could be reverted and restored (which was my intention).

Located near Goulburn NSW
please e-mail me at gharlor@yahoo.com for further info.

I think you will find you are pushing uphill for 10k, you would be lucky to get $2000 for a 44 year old bus that are well known for rust.

I know 10K is a bit of a dream.
However, there is FA rust and it is an "un-overhauled" Mk 1

It quite clearly has been overhauled as can be seen by the larger drivers window, the few that were unoverhauled had the smaller window.
nothing special really, 15 years ago you may have got 5k, not now

Can you explain the larger window overhaul.
What was the size difference compared to the original.
We are talking the front glass yes ??

The drivers side window was originally 2 piece slider but on overhaul were replaced by the window of same size as those found on mk2 leopards, ruttys did have one that was unoverhauled but not this bus, it was last seen at a nowra caravan park with the roof raised,

Wow, I'm learning all the time.
I had a long discussion with the last owner yesterday. He had a very well documented history on the bus. Sadly was mostly lost in a house fire.
As for the front door, the mechanism is all still there, as are the steps.
$5k now sounds reasonable. If I cant get that , then I will leave it in the the shed for later.
Thanks for the replies and info.

I've spent a bit of time with servicing and have repaired the gear shifting. Now selects all gears and drives fine.
Comes with a couple of spare wheels / tyres also.

Please tell me if I'm being unrealistic to want $4K? It's worth that much to me as a shed and cubby house for the kids.

As much as would love to keep it as restore it myself (in ten years), I really would prefer to see someone get it back on the road and enjoy it.

I'm happy to store it for as long as the purchaser requires.

I may even resort to listing on eBay in a few weeks.

The answer to that question lies in how many if any would want to restore a mk1 leopard and what they are willing to pay.
I think you will still end up keeping it a while longer
