Excuse me while I try and figure out the message above...

Perth will almost never see double deckers again. We do not have the high capacity, long distance routes that other cities have, like Sydney or Adelaide. Perth is too sparsely populated for any usefulness in deckers, however that suits artics very nicely.

The removal of those conflicting traffic movements from the entry and exit to Stirling should make it easier to get some decent bus priority... Well, one hopes.

I have to agree it can get quite congested through there even like a decade ago it was always very busy seems like the plan is to convert Cedric street into a local access road however it makes sense to keep northbound freeway access open

The contract for Phase 2 of the $165 million Stephenson Avenue Extension has been awarded to Acciona, Clough and WSP under an alliance contract.

When complete, the project will provide a new connection from Cedric Street to Scarborough Beach Road, including a new grade-separated Mitchell Freeway interchange to replace Cedric Street and local road links to Ellen Stirling Boulevard.

The Stephenson Avenue Extension Phase 2 project scope also includes:
A Smart Freeway southbound on-ramp;
A $90 million upgrade to the Stirling Bus Interchange from an 18-stand facility to a 30-stand bus interchange;
A new road connecting Sarich Court to Cedric Street west of the freeway, including a new bridge for Stephenson Avenue over the new road;
A new Principal Shared Path on the east side of the Mitchell Freeway from Telford Crescent to Civic Place, including an underpass under Stephenson Avenue; and
New shared paths along Stephenson Avenue and connections to the new Principal Shared Path.
Phase 2 is being delivered by Main Roads and major works are expected to commence early 2022 with completion in late 2023.

Phase 1 of the Stephenson Avenue Extension is being delivered by the City of Stirling and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Major works underway include:
Extension of Stephenson Avenue from Scarborough Beach Road through to Howe Street;
New local road connections between Stephenson Avenue and Ellen Stirling Boulevard at Oswald Street and Howe Street;
On-street parking; and
A new shared path for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project will support the local economy, creating an estimated 800 jobs over both phases.

The Stephenson Avenue Extension and Stirling Bus Interchange projects are jointly funded by the Morrison Government and State Governments, with each contributing $127.5 million.

The Stephenson Ave extension is being funded under the Morrison Government's Urban Congestion Fund.

"The Morrison Government is getting on with delivering infrastructure projects that improve congestion and safety for commuters across Australia, making it easier for them to move around our capital cities and ensuring they get home quickly and safely.

"Under the Urban Congestion Fund, we are delivering 182 packages of work nationwide. The total number of projects that are now completed or underway nationwide is 73. A further 30 are expected to start construction this year.

"This is just the latest example of us delivering on our commitment to progress critical infrastructure projects across the country under our record $110 billion, 10-year infrastructure investment pipeline, which is helping to drive Australia's economic recovery."

"This project will improve access to important commercial and residential hubs, as well as providing key road, public transport, walking and cycling links for residents and businesses.

"When complete, this project will ease congestion and travel times, meaning less time on the road and more time with friends and family."

"Like all major projects, there will be some disruptions to the area when the freeway and bus interchanges are constructed. We apologise in advance for this inconvenience while we are building the infrastructure for tomorrow."

"This result is a massive win for Stirling residents. The Morrison Government's investment in this project will help deliver more local jobs, improve amenities, and create a vibrant community."
