It won't be an O305 if it has a centre mount engine.

Can you show any pictures, VIN, body number or rego as that will help the search?

Unfortunately none of those numbers score a direct hit within our fleet lists.

Do you know who the body was made by, where the bus was before Alice Springs, are the colours it is in now it's original colours or has it been repainted? Things like that might also help.

Thanks for that Herbert,I am off to engineers tomorrow as there are three plates attached,Should have a few more questions,in fact should have been more on the ball 'But'',no excuses just dumb,,I know the chap we bought it from didnt have a clue as to model,,I just googled 1982 Merc buses and there was a Wikepedia blurb and photos of 0305's and the description of the 5speed and pics sure looked like a 0305 but most of you blokes on here know a damned sight more than most so I suspect you are on the moneyNow all I have to do is find where I may get parts from,,Regards and thanks Bunyip ( Ron )

If you want parts - call multispares 13 16 15, they have locations throughout Australia.

Just tell them the bus type (1617 benz) and they will be able to help. I just had a quick flick through my notes and there are two different rear drums used so you will need to get a rear axle number (should be 6 digit)

Hope that helps

No mate, but Diverse has machined the 3mm lip off and assures me that they are good for at least another 100,000 ks but they couldnt take out all the scuffing without compromising safety, thats good enough for me,will see about new drums when back home, hopefully be on the road in next 7-10 days after solar and gen set etc installed and gas/elects checked and given allclear,,this company has really gone over the old girl and rectified numerous problems that have been overlooked and have done it in just over 3 weeks ( and for a low mileage vehicle,,398000ks ,these problems should not have been there so some bugger didnt care about peoples safety or didnt know his job,,shame about that ,Dan the mechanic at Diverse reckons thats genuine ks from his point of view, wishes he could run into the bloke responsible ,I hope he doesnt, hes a rather big sort of bloke ) what I expect others would have taken double the time or more, they really are not related to Ned Kelly where your pocket is concerned,,thanks for your advice and responses,,will definately be in touch, now I live in hope that someone can give me some more background on the rig from the plate info,at least when we finnish reno it will be what we want, comfortable, practicle and reliable,( a bit like the missus )if we get three or four years of trotting about before the bods say bugger off thats enough we will be stoked. The thing that amazes me on this site is that even if you ask a question that to the more experienced is a dumb one because of lack of knowledge, most recocnise that you are trying to learn and dont bag you and for that ,gentlemen,I thank you, best regards Ron
