January 2021 timetable changes

Post by hillsbus »

Does anyone know if there will be the normal January timetable changes next month? Or will there be any bus timetable changes linked to the new Seaford/Flinders Line timetables which start after Christmas?

I’d hope there’d be a few time tweaks for 600/601/320s at Flinders, other than that I’d doubt any major changes will happen

Problem with tweaking the times for the 600/601 to coincide with trains at Flinders may mean a loss of connectivity to trains at Blackwood. I think that train connection may be slightly more important than one at Flinders.

Trouble is that if you change 1 timetable these days ,you invariably have to change others because of the way shifts are structured.

Why is that. Shifts are set by the contractors , timetables ( mostly) are set by by the Government.
Shifts often change at the end of holidays anyway.

Knock on effect because of new timings for routes so some shifts just won't work anymore, but of course that's normal over time

Nick-do you know if there are many routes with changes, or are these mainly running times changes?

There should be timetables for school holidays that are separate to normal school days.

10 minutes of laying over on one trip before the halfway point is not exactly encouraging to new patrons. But then, that's probably why the DIT doesn't adjust them in the first place! Some of the peak timetables are disgraceful.

I believe AdMet are planning to move to separate peak/off peak timetables.

sounds awfully pointless, seeing as the timetables already are different for peak+off peak. if anything it will make timetables more confusing

It certainly won't save on paper,as most people don't carry a paper timetable.
Its almost impossible to get hold of one these days. Only way is to download and print one.

Those problems would have been solve with the introduction of headway managed routes under the proposed new network earlier in the year

It would appear that the proposed timetable changes will mainly involve running times-similar to that which occurred last July.
I wonder when Adelaide Metro will sit down and properly plan timetables to eliminate excessive time wasting at key check points?

Well I believe they we’re going to for the New Network, but according to the general public, what we have is perfect and doesn’t need change.

With the new timetables likely starting for the new School year, I presume Sunday 24th January will be the start date. Therefore information on the changes should be out early next week I would guess!

Seems unusual to have timetables starting on a Wednesday; but in saying that it seems silly to have a special lot of shifts for one school holiday day.

Good point Phonj and Jibb

Potentially they'll start on the 26th on the Public Holiday.

Any idea if the changes will involve more than tweaking of time points? I'm thinking that as a new contractor Busways may have some changes they want to implement in the Outer South?

Officially School starts on Monday 25 of January. However its a student free day due to the public holiday.

So the timetables could change on the Sunday as normal, and handel the Monday as another student free day ( albeit statewide)

Yes, Busways had a large array of changes they wanted to implement. Unfortunately, everyone in Adelaide seems to be stuck in the 1970s, and the whole scheme was scrapped.

Does not mean that Busways can't alter their timetables and routes. Some ideas that were proposed in the ill-fated upgrade were fantastic ideas.
