Tenders to upgrade bus stops
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has issued tender Documents to upgrade 1652 bus stops signs, totems etc in the City and metropolitan areas.
Tender call for the supply of bus stop plates, poles, stobie poles and totems, removing old signage, repainting of existing stops. Work to begin in December this year and be completed by June 2021.
The stops cover suburban street locations, city street locations, interchanges and shopping centres.

Re: Tenders to upgrade bus stops
Is this a continuation of the program that saw the upgrade a year or two ago of stops in the NE suburbs?jibb wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:20 am The Department for Infrastructure and Transport has issued tender Documents to upgrade 1652 bus stops signs, totems etc in the City and metropolitan areas.

Re: Tenders to upgrade bus stops
This appears to be a new and much more comprehensive program.

According to media reports, didn’t they have $2.8 million set aside for the removal of the 1000+ bus stops, tactile paving, changing to “school services only” stops etc anticipating that Knoll’s big “improvements” plan was going to get through? Maybe those funds are now going to be used to improve the presentation of those very same stops that were going to be removed.

I believe that money was set aside in this years DPTI Budget for this program.TT wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 9:09 pm According to media reports, didn’t they have $2.8 million set aside for the removal of the 1000+ bus stops, tactile paving, changing to “school services only” stops etc anticipating that Knoll’s big “improvements” plan was going to get through? As this tender covers major City and Suburban stops/Interchanges, I doubt that any of these were part of the aborted plan for the new Bus network.
As there are over 7500 bus stops in the Adelaide Metro Network it is obviously going to take a long time to upgrade Adelaide's bus stop signs, many of which are looking in very poor state-a bad advertisement for our Public Transport system.

Re: Tenders to upgrade bus stops
I agree many are in a very poor state, many very faded signs hanging on an unpainted stobie pole with electrical wiring and tubing across the front of them. On a positive note, in the last 12 months or so where stops have been upgraded with new concrete and/or paved areas including the tactile paving they have also upgraded the bus stop signs by replacing partly hidden signs attached to stobie poles with clearly visible posts.
Also, the real time screens in Currie and Grenfell Streets are used by lots of intending passengers now: it would be great if these were installed on at least all compulsory city stops.

I forgot to mention that nearly all the signs on most O-Bahn stops were replaced and upgraded a couple of years ago(excluding O-Bahn stops on Southern(M44) and Western(H1-H2-110) sides of the City)⁶

Given they're all ads, it would ultimately be up to a) advertisers to decide whether spending that much on elaborate bus shelter advertising is worth it and 2) whoever approves the ads on bus shelters as to whether or not you'd see ads like that.
The government themselves wouldn't be paying for them, beyond the basic structure of the shelter that would already be there.
