Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
As the topic title says, 'your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service'.
What is your favourite bus, currently or previously operated by an Adelaide Metro provider? Do you have a particular chassis or body type, or are you focusing more onto the one individual bus?
I'll start this topic off...
Past: no doubt it would have to be the old Merc O305/G's, MAN SG's and SL200's. I would say the Volvo's, but I wasn't exactly quite into buses during that period of time
Current: as many of you would know, my favourite bus would have to be the CB80 of course (what else could it be ). Closely followed by 2801 (zone cruiser) and the 18.280's!!
So now it's your turn, go ahead and list off any of your favourite past or current buses. As many as you like, there is no limit! This will be interesting to see the variation in people's opinions, lets get this rolling

Re: Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
Alright, this looks interesting. Remembering I was born this century (no disrespect intended for those not), my favourite past bus would be 306, the Volvo B10M 14.5/PMCSA 'SE2' that was in the Hills until around 2014. My favourite current bus is (obviously) 3269, but I'm happy when most CR224Ls pull up.
First person on 822, 865 (2016 re-route).
Last person on 164, 867, 868

Re: Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
You are correct Hawkeye, I have to list the good ol' PMC SA buses as the best, especially the Mercedes Benz O305s and O305Gs. However, I'm interpreting the question as what is my favourite bus currently in service, so I'm going with MAN SL202 426, followed by MAN SL202 CNG 885 and then 1637. I don't mind a good ride on any good MAN bus though, and 2801 even made for a decent ride except for it being governed to 85 kph.
In case anyone is wondering, considering my list of MAN SL202s, I also quite like 422, and was very happy to hear it going from 0-55 kph in a matter of seconds past my house recently.

Re: Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
422 is powerful, not very rattly, and always sounds good accelerating and braking. However, having caught it along the flats in 60 zones over 20 times now, it's getting monotonous, and hence I haven't caught it for at least a month.
859 seems to be more interesting to me at the moment with the strange sound that it makes at about 62kph or higher, which I have heard on one particular J1 trip, albeit not when I expected to. It has very high revs at 60kph compared to some others.

I'd be happy with one where everything works properly

Volvo Brown bombers by far my favourite bus never got to drive one but fond memories of catching them to school every morning on the 744 route and as a driver always loves driving the southlink lonsdale 2200s especially 2217 and 2205 these were great to drive followed by the 2800s especially 2817 to 2820 which had regulary on night move services

Re: Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
Great Topic - Thanks for listing.
I've got many favourites but here goes an attempt to list some!
Volvo Brown Bombers were fantastic (Although didn't mind them in the Red/Blue speed stripes as well) - no specific favourite, but always pleased to get one...loved the sound of one screaming up the hill!
Mercedes Benz O305 - 501, 525, 529, 541
Mercedes Benz O305G - 545, 547, 550, 587
MAN SG280H - 1947, 2360 (ex 184, 1960) - Always a nice surprise when one of these popped up on an O-Bahn service!
MAN SL202 Diesel and CNG ex 427, 439, 444 - 878, 885, 1630
The MAN SL 200s were great but always loved the Green Machines
The list could go on...

Re: Your favourite bus under Adelaide Metro service
I should add to that - currently I really like the Ivecos that we have, and the Volgrens are pretty good too (both Hills series and the 7 ex Melbourne buses)Route 506 wrote:Great Topic - Thanks for listing.
