[Sept/Oct 2016] SA transport observations

Post by The Phonj »

September is here, the weather should start to warm up soon, although I do predict some rain at some stage over the next 10 days. Yes, the annual Royal Adelaide Show has started; with the usual additional services to the showgrounds - 21W bus from Currie St, 22W bus from Tea Tree Plaza and additional trains at night and on weekends. Visit the Adelaide Metro website for timetable information.

New Euro VI Scania K320 buses have been delivered, and should enter service shortly. These mark the beginning of the end of the diesel MAN SL202's which are approaching 25 years of age. Make sure you get your last rides (and photos etc) before they all go!

October marks 30 years since the former City tram depot was closed, with tram services after that time running out of the (then) new Glengowrie depot. The former City depot ultimately was converted for use as courts for a while but was ultimately demolished and the SA Water building in the South East corner of Victoria Sq now stands in its place.

Please post your South Australian transport observations that wouldn't seem to warrant their own thread here.

422 was still in service tonight. It did a 288/281, then 178/171/190/232R broken portion. I saw at least one CB80 sitting on the dead track at Port tonight. Could be a new vehicle awaiting commissioning.

Went past Mile End depot this afternoon & saw one of the ex NSW Mercedes O405NH's with part of its front missing, can anyone provide an explanation whether it's been transferred from Camden Park or just awaiting repairs. Also saw one of the ex Darwin buses in plain white & on the dead track was another ex Darwin unit still in Darwinbus livery possibly about to enter service.

1755 has had it's 'Adelaide Free - Arts & Education livery" livery removed, meaning no more are left in those colours. It is now home to an AOA for Malaysia Travel :D

The repaint into AdMet happened about 2 years ago, and the AOA was applied back in April... The fleet listing for 1755 needs an update.

Ahh well, no one had mentioned it so I thought it had only been applied recently :P

EDIT: Just did the search of the forum again, turns out it had been noted back in April. My mistake, need my eyes checked

Looks like LCB 's Diesel MAN SL202--443(O-Bahn equipped) may have run its last journey.
It has been off the road for a few weeks with major engine problems, and may now not see service again.

Adelaide Metro wrote:RAIL SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS

Wednesday 14 September

Following today’s announcement that rail (train) employees will meet on Wednesday 14 September, Adelaide Metro advises that it is currently working through the impacts to train operations and will advise our customers regarding services as soon as possible.
Regular Adelaide Metro bus and tram services will not be affected.
Please visit Adelaide Metro Info Centres, call the Adelaide Metro Info Line on 1300 311 108 or check this website and the @AdelaideMetroSA Twitter account in coming days for updated information.
We thank you for your understanding.
Heard on Channel 7 just before, that it is planned to be a 3 hour duration. Also mentioned was that train services would be free the following day. All yet to be confirmed, will keep an eye out :P

On another note, DD 3401 has had it's peeling yellow paint around the desto replaced! Credit goes to cjsheldon for the pic :)

I heard that from a Adelaide Hills DD a few hours ago, very disappointing IMO, it looked better without the hideous yellow. Oh well, life goes on.

If I was to speak to a bus, it would be a Newton SL202, and I'd be asking "Can you get up to 60kph?". It's a very rare occurrence.

Cr@p. I meant the user, Adelaide Hills DD. Damn autocorrect  .

If I was able to speak to a bus it would not be 3401. More likely 3269 or 3310.

SouthLink Hills CB80's are getting a make over with yellow headers getting applied. 3226 is the first to get done.
What even is a bus?

Sounds like bad news to me. CB80s look much better without the yellow header. Is there an official reason why they are doing this, or is it just change for the sake of change?

It is to do with helping visually impaired people who have trouble viewing the destinations.Bus companies in Adelaide will eventually have all their red CB80s with yellow headers.
Torrens Transit have almost completed theirs.

Will the artics be changed as well? AFAIK only 1182 is "yellowed" currently, possibly 1849 and 1850 as well.

Most of the torrens artics already have been done

Will the yellow CB80s (1521-1529, 3227-9, etc) be done as well? That would look even worse...

Can't answer your question but... Slight correction being, 1521-1533 and also all of the Lonsdale/Elizabeth based yellow-fronted CB80's would have to be done too :P
