[Aug 2013] SA Transport observations
It's August, and 'H'-type tram 351 is running on Sunday 4, 11, 18 and 25 August as a trial. May it be successful and continue on for many more years.

From: http://m.adelaidenow.com.au/messenger/n ... 6691972733Gawler rail line needs to be electrified in full, mayors say
NORTHERN mayors are calling for an election commitment from both major parties to fast track the electrification of the entire Gawler rail line.
Playford, Salisbury and Gawler leaders say the project, which has been costed at more than $300 million, is needed to support the north's population growth.
Playford Mayor Glenn Docherty said the state and federal governments had "dropped the ball" on the rail line.
"If they are fair dinkum about getting more people on to trains, helping our environment, having quicker, better public transport, then it can't stop at Dry Creek," Mr Docherty said.
"It's not just about building better communities, it's about providing economic opportunity for our community as well to get to and from jobs."
Salisbury Acting Mayor Chad Buchanan said the electrification would have enormous benefits for the region.
"It's important for us as a council to see the Gawler railway line electrification be completed in full so our community can receive the benefits, similar to what's happened down south," he said.
The start of the $318 million project to electrify the Gawler line was delayed in the 2012 State Budget because of a lack of state funds.
The State Government this year announced the line would be electrified between the city and Dry Creek at a cost of $152 million over three years.
A spokesman for Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said $76 million in federal funding had been committed to the line beyond the Dry Creek extension.
However, how and when that money will be spent is still being negotiated.
A spokesman for State Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis said funding for the extension to Gawler was not in the current forward estimates, but would be revisited when funds become available.
Gawler Acting Mayor David Hughes said commuters needed to have confidence in the public transport system.
"Having that reliability is the most important thing," Cr Hughes said.
"I understand funding is tight, but we need the best possible infrastructure."
Mr Docherty said improved road networks in and around the Adelaide Plains food bowl to better cater for trucks were also needed.
He suggested road infrastructure worth about $60 million to $70 million was needed around the greater Edinburgh Park area.
Salisbury Council chief executive John Harry said Mawson Lakes was still in contention to secure a multi-million dollar manufacturing hub under a Labor plan announced earlier this year.
Cr Hughes said Gawler was also hoping for investment in stormwater harvesting.
"All those sorts of schemes save money at the end of the day," Cr Hughes said
I'll let you on a little secret. The electrification is going beyond Dry Creek. No Jokes

4 Mercedes Artics parked alongside the eastern fence of LCB's Morphettville Depot this afternoon.
Don't know if they were buses from the TSA yard ready for transfer to Southlink's Lonsdale Depot or they were being returned from Lonsdale Depot.
One things for sure they wouldn't be for use on LCB's services!

On another website, somebody reported that 567, 569, 571, 572, 573 made their way to Morphettville today, perhaps that's what you saw?

Bugger. Does that leave any old Mercs still in service? Hopefully some of these artics find their way to Horizons West or Adams or somewhere, instead of the scrap heap.

Apparently R588 is the only Merc artic left in service (but that's second hand information, I haven't been down to Adelaide recently to confirm that). And yes, at least one Merc artic (578) and two rigids so far (522, 523) have found their way into private operators' fleets in Perth.

Re: [Aug 2013] SA Transport observations
I will back up Busrider. I can only report what I see, and the only Merc I have seen on Noarlunga Rail Subs in recent weeks is R588. I normally see a few more in peak hour (either in the city or generally running "special" up and down South Rd) but R588 is the sole Merc I have seen.
One would have thought that a news service would have proudly promoted the fact that the last of the Mercs were running and that alot more low floor buses were being used on Noarlunga Train Subs.... oh, wait, that is a good news story.....

Big Robbo unfortunately unless Adelaide Metro puts out a press release regarding this ,the media won't be interested.bigrobbo wrote:I will back up Busrider. Merc rigid 540 in a storage yard today on Torrens Rd at Woodville North, along with Volvo B58 (or B10M) 1445. So maybe 540 will be preserved by n enthusiast?

540 is indeed preserved by an enthusiast; but we're all still trying to work out exactly who it is.
The owner of 1445 tells me it may be an ex-Adelaide individual who is currently living interstate.

You have to wonder how you purchase ex AdMet buses. I know DECD just dumps them through Evans and Clarke auction.

I imagine through tender, I know that some other government departments dispose of vehicles in such a fashion.

Easy. Get onto the Asset Manager of the Transport Department. The Mercs are being sold around $4,000.00witsend wrote:You have to wonder how you purchase ex AdMet buses. I know DECD just dumps them through Evans and Clarke auction.
Proudly returning the ZF scream to the streets of Adelaide!

Re: [Aug 2013] SA Transport observations
I agree with you totally. Just the media do go chasing bad news stories about Public Transport without a Media Release. It would be good for them to chase a good news story for a change.jibb wrote:Big Robbo unfortunately unless Adelaide Metro puts out a press release regarding this ,the media won't be interested.

Re: [Aug 2013] SA Transport observations
I still cannot believe they are as good as gone. There is absolutely nothing wrong with them at all. R567 sounds like it was rolled off the production line yesterday. And many more with it! R588 isn't too bad but to be the only one left is a terrible joke in my eyes. I'm really glad I made the most of my last trip on R567 a few weeks ago. Filmed it, sound recorded it the lot. They have been the backbone of the Adelaide Buses for the last 25 years and some.
If I had space I would buy one. I've got the money but the missus prob wouldn't justify it...

If you're after storage space, U-Store-It in Lonsdale may be happy to help, there's already a few buses kept in there so I'm sure they wouldn't mind one more...

On Saturday 3rd August 2013 during the mid afternoon I was walking in the City, when I saw Volvo B10M ex 1440 followed by MaN SL200 ex 1812 and a ex O-Bahn Mercedes-Benz O305 bus heading north along King William Street in the City, managed to take photos of them. Nice sight
Next station is Victoria Square. Change here for all trains.

They already had 4 in their fleet... On the subject of Volgren-bodied coaches though, saw a Grendas coach going through Port Augusta this afternoon!
