Be good to have LRT in Cairns, Toowoomba and Townsville, as well as the Sunshine Coast.

Where in Townsville could you justify LR? It is no Gold Coast.
The Sunshine Coast might the only place that could justify it.

Re: Rural LIGHT RAIL QLD .
FROM THE STRAND & THE CITY CENTRE out past the new football stadium /the huge army base past the uni and townsville base hospital stockland & willows shopping centre to the north shore estate a 3 huge private schools to bushland beach. THE 2 BIG OUTER SHOPPING CENTRES CAR PARKS ARE FULL BEFORE THE SHOPS ARE OPEN and the uni & new hospital have very limited parking and the local bus serive is just a bout non existant and night times & week-ends give up going out.the new estates outside of townsville city centre are now huge there are not enough homes at presant and more & more are being built out side the city centre in north shore ect . the waiting list for rentals are huge and homes are being built at a huge rate.rental propetys are in demand because so many homes were lost in 2012 floods plus the amount of defence personel that are in townsville plus getting bigger!

I reckon all three regional hubs would benefit from LRT being Townsville, Toowoomba and Cairns. You would only need.a couple of main lines with interchanges fed with electric buses. I reckon a line from Cairns CBD via the airport and Cairns Uni to Palm Cove. Another South via the Casino and Port to Edmonton.
Townsville would be the same with a East West and North South (via the Airport) system. Some of it can use the existing rail corridor which can be converted to dual gauge.
Toowoomba could utilise the existing rail corridor that goes through town and have it terminate at the Uni. Another could go East-West to connect Picnic Point via the CBD to Oakey via Wellcamp.
For LRT to be successful. it needs to connect points of interest like interchanges, shopping centres and tourism attractions, while travelling through major residential catchment areas.
