QLD Electric Buses Listing

Post by 385BUZ »

Since There has been alot of hype recently regarding Electric buses, I thourght Id dedicate a topic to it. So far we have:

- Surfside trailing 10 bustech EVs next year on the 777.
- A $23B labour election promise for Bustech EVs for Clarks Logan and Surfside
- BT trialing 4 Electric Buses in 2022 on the downtown loop (Routes 40 and 50)
- Grace Grace pushing for Electric buses on the Spring Hill Loop (Route 30)
- Transdev trialing their BYD EV from Melbourne
- 5 Yutong Electric buses for Caloundra on 12 month trial

Theres also the Brisbane Metro (that's supposed to be electric) and Brisbane Airport/Carbridge that have had 12 BYD K9s in service for a few years.

BYD K9RA.

"Head of TransLink Matt Longland said two low-floor diesel buses would initially service the route before two electric buses were expected to take over later this year."

"“The electric buses will be Nexport BYD, K9RA models with a low-floor, accessible body and a seating capacity of 41 passengers."

Apparently Grace Grace from Mcconnel will push for another electric bus to run the Springhill Loop and extend it into weekends as well.

Couriermail Quest---> McConnel winner revealed: What it means for you

Ms Grace also committed to a two-year trial for free electric buses for the Spring Hill loop, which would be extended to weekends.

The Translink email update today states that Transdev has also a new electric bus, that will be in service for Redlands and running into the city. Apparently Volgren will be supplying this one, as part of the trial.

The Transdev one is not the same bus they have been trialling on the 246 in Melbourne during 2020.

Why build a second bus when you can reuse the first one? Pretty lazy.

Has there been a commitment to replace the all the buses in Queensland with electric buses like NSW where all 8000 diesel buses will be replaced with electric buses by 2030 or is it just that by 2030 all buses built will be electric?

Or a full fleet transition in a particular city only such as Logan or Gold Coast

Thanks.

They are meant to be trialling electric buses this year. I haven't seen any on the street as yet or seen or heard an announcement? Must be soon though.

In Daily--->.Electric bus company gears up for zero-emission growth
The Adelaide group behind the manufacture of the Brabham BT62 supercar is positioning itself to become a major producer of electric buses for the emerging Australian market.
It also has orders for electric buses in Queensland, which it aims to start delivering in the second half of this year.

Two Volgren BYD electrics in white were sighted by a colleague at a launch in Melbourne for Transdev. These are most likely for the Redlands trial that was originally due to start back in January. Presumably they will be on their way north soon.

Custom Denning Element (no. 3) at the QBIC conference in Gold Coast on Saturday. It was used to ferry delegates around as well as being test-driven by several operators. It ran for 17 hours from Acacia Ridge and back, covering 400 km on a single charge.

Transdev Brisbane made a big splash today unveiling its Vogren BYD electric bus:

https://www.facebook.com/TransdevAustNZ ... 9714378201

https://www.transdev.com.au/news-en/sol ... e-streets/

Of course the "solar-powered" must be taken with a pinch of salt as the solar panels (with battery storage) are not on the bus, but on the depot where the bus is charged.

It's a shame that the bus has been ruined by that dreadful wrap. Why do they do this? Do they think that people actually like it?

"Avert your eyes" more like it

As for greenie street cred, I know the sun shines a lot in Queensland but I wonder if Transdev is game enough to disconnect that depot from the grid and put their money where their mouth is?! Otherwise tell us how many days a year the buses run on good old Queensland coal.

Hi All,
I am putting on a launch on the morning of Saturday the 24th of April for those who are interested in coming and seeing Transdev’s new electric bus and go for a ride. At the event I can answer some of the questions posted here like..
The wrap, its Translink’s Zero Emissions dictated wrap and it’s a lot better than the Blue and purple one they first suggested
Yes its 100% solar-powered… lack of sun (bad weather) means its goes on shorter runs.
The only trial part is to see if we can run 100% solar, the rest is proven technology and Transdev has 100’s of electric buses worldwide.
if you’re interested in coming to see it and going for a ride please email me paul.vorrasi@transdev.com.au to book a place.
