Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
Orewa wouldn't even have a depot big enough to turn one around!!! lol
Surely, I would've thought double deckers or normal articulated buses would be the way to go. They both have their pros and cons, articulated buses take up more road space, but are quicker to board and disembark passengers while double deckers are standard length with greater capacity, but take longer to board and disembark passengers.

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
Rumours are that Double deckers are to be ordered for the Dominion and Mt Eden Road services with Scania or Volvo being potential chassis suppliers.
There is also interest by other major operators to operate Double deckers and not only in Auckland....
Lastly, Ritchies prototype Scania Double decker is due in service on the Northern Express next month as it is due to be shipped out from Singapore any day now...

The Gemilang body looks good I wonder if its the same Scania BR112DH chassis under the SBS Transit one in Singapore or a different Scania chassis.

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
Probably the same chassis as the one in SBS Transit KUD, but not 310
Maybe is K280UD
I am surprised they have a stricter GVW, and they can have a proper decker,
not like here have to use CDi's odd twin steer design

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
NSW road rules seem to be remaining in Stone Age. It's good to see NZ quite well progressing with the decker idea with something mainstream, hopefully they will get more of them in big batches.
I don't think CDI is a sustainable product, apart from Sydney and possibly QLD, I don't think anywhere else around the world wants that twin front steer. Too niche of a product, good for gunzels but I don't think it will take off massively.

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
I've always had the impression that NZ had stricter road rules than most states in Australia. What does this Scania decker have that we can't have in Australia? Something like this would be perfect for some cities in Australia.
While Bustech seems to be picking up business in QLD and NSW, their products don't really get any further than that. Apart from the odd bus in SA, NT Buslink and one that ended up in WA.

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
Some operators should work together with Scania and Northcoast-Gemilang to bring this in
If 21.5t is over 20t limit, get an 11m version!
By the way, this bus is using Super Single Steel rims instead of Alcoa Alloy Wheels

I wonder if Kiwi would modify their Intercity spec Scania decker for a Urban version? Instead of concentrating on the AdL's

Re: Getting ready for the double deckers?
I though the Kiwi already built one on ADL chassis and is ready for urban use by just putting bus typ doors on it.Cordes Express wrote:OLYMPIAN wrote:Some operators should work together with Scania and Northcoast-Gemilang to bring this in

Also rumours going around Howick have something to do with ADL, so they will be looking at Enviro 500?

It was getting the CCTV fitted according to the guys there. This is where MOST of the Ritchies Auckland fleet get work done. They are two minutes up the road from the Swanson Rd DepotBedford-29 wrote:New bus at the auto electricians.
