Tasmanian Bus Observations - JUL > DEC 2018

Post by Tas Bus Nut »

Well the second 1/2 of the year is upon us and the withdrawals have commenced for Metro for the new Bustech XDi arrivals.
Those noted include: ex HC10, ex HC12 & 628 all retired from Burnie, replaced by 630, 631, 636. 801 > 803 replace 630, 631 & 636 in Hobart.
Additional retirements include: 162 for 804, 115 for 805 and 166 for 806, although 806 is yet to be delivered.

Johnsons Coaches Spreyton have a new BCI midi for their newly acquired Savage River service and Pennicott Wilderness Tours have purchased a brand new Bonluck full-size coach, replacing their Csepel/Autobus. But the big news was the operation of hybrid buses by McDermott Coaches on the Cradle Mountain shuttle service. Later in the year, Red Decker Co will operate their "all-weather / all-year round" service to Mt Wellington with a new specially built BCI low-floor. Stay tuned.

YES burrumbus. Crawn's had operated the Savage River contract for quite a few years.

Correct. The training bus is 142. Last auction, Pennicott's Csepel and HC12 both went to O'Driscoll.

Interesting to note, ALL Metro buses located at Manheim Auctions were SOLD last Tuesday. Most were inknown buyers and their fate uncertain, however ex HC/Metro #10 has joined O'Driscoll Coaches as #31, joining ex HC/Metro #12 (#35) and Pennicott's Csepel (#36). Both 10/12 are on the road, whilst the Csepel still awaiting inspection.
ex Metro #628 has gone to Buses R Us, whilst unknown whom bought 143, 166 and 178

In case anyone is interested & may not of seen this on Facebook, KM Trucks have an old Scania up for grabs. Looks like a renovaters dream, but might have something of value.

Quite a bit happening in the island state of late. Red Decker Co have commenced their 365 days a year service to summit Mt Wellington using (2) Higer Munros. A BCI low-floor midi, shall join the fleet late Dec/early Jan. Metro now are up to #818 in Bustech deliveries, which means quite a few more VOVIIs being withdrawn from service. If you're a photographer, get in quick before they're all gone. Wisby Buses have a Yutong 57 seater, which on occasions has been spotted on Cruise Ship tours and Coal River Coaches has taken delivery of a Scania with Irizar i6 body (believed to be on loan until a new one is built for them)
