Are you referring to just the Metro, or are there changes to timetables on other services? I saw some complaints on Reddit about crowding at Town Hall platforms.
They were referring to bus services and presumably other modes as well.

20 minutes is a strange frequency to pick, when pretty much everything that connects with it runs every 15 or 30.

I also heard comments on the radio about medical staff (for example) being caught out when trying to travel to work early in the morning, as Sunday timetables on many bus routes start much later than on weekdays, particularly in the 'burbs.

Where did you hear that they are going to "scrap that idea"?

It mentioned they are no longer simply running to a Sunday timetable like originally planned. They are altering that plan.

Ah, interesting. There doesn't seem to be any details out yet.

Can confirm at least a few STA routes have already resumed, e.g. route 265 has (at least partially) resumed even though it doesn't run on Sundays.

A cursory check of AnyTrip shows that STA school specials including 612e, 793n and 646w also ran today.

Unfortunately there have been very few details at all since this all started to emerge on Sunday night - vague references to fewer services, occasional references to Sunday timetables and a generally confused and lacklustre communication. Business as usual really.

State Transit are operating all their school services as normal by the looks of things. I have also noted a significant number of routes where extra trips have been added over the past few days. These routes include (but certainly might not be limited to) - B1, 265, 309, 309X, 324, 352, 400, 440, 600, 607X, 610X, 611, 664 and 665

I would have thought somebody at Sydney Metro decided to take the off-peak frequency (10 minutes), then just run every second service (ie. every 20 minutes), rather than actually looking at what connects to it etc (which would be the 'too sensible' thing to do).

Or somebody at TfNSW who directed Sydney Metro what to do.

Email just received from Busways
From Monday 19 July, Western Sydney bus services have been operating to a Sunday timetable due to COVID-19 restrictions. Whilst services continue to operate to a Sunday timetable, supplementary services will be added temporarily to support travel for essential workers.
These services will operate from Monday 26 July and will run hourly during peak (5am – 8am and 3pm – 6pm) on the following routes:
Route 723 – Mt Druitt to Eastern Creek
Route 723 – Blacktown to Eastern Creek
Route 724 – Blacktown to Huntingwood
Route 779 – from St Marys to Erskine Park
Customers are reminded that stay at home orders are in place and to use public transport for essential travel only. Face masks are mandatory across NSW on public transport.

I wonder how many passengers will wear it with their nose hanging out like I see many people do, our fail to wear one at all, causing a stalemate with the long suffering driver?
I bet management who crawl to the passenger most of the time, won't back up the driver as usual.

The drivers' own unions in NSW decided that passengers must walk past the driver, so they can hardly complain.

Another update to timetables: https://transportnsw.info/covid-19/covi ... l-guidance
Public Transport service changes
From Monday 2 August, the transport timetable across Greater Sydney will be adjusted to accommodate the return to work for constructions. Bus and train will return to operating a weekday schedule, with some minor adjustments during the peak hours.

Do not use public transport unless making an essential trip.

We are asking all essential travellers to consider their travel options and if they have to use public transport please plan ahead as your normal trip will look different.

Key timetable changes:

Metro runs at a 10 minute frequency during morning and afternoon peak periods and 20 mins during off peak.
Sydney Trains operate to a weekday timetable for suburban passenger services with additional early morning services and reduction of high peak services.
Intercity services operate to a weekday timetable services with reduced frequency in the peak.
Most buses operate to a Monday to Friday school holiday timetable. Dedicated school services will continue to operate as required.
Ferries operate hourly.
L1 Inner West line light rail services operate to a weekday timetable. L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford line services run to a Sunday timetable with additional shuttle services during peak times for the L2.
NSW TrainLink Regional services operate to a weekday timetable for Regional, Hunter, Bathurst, Southern Highland Services. Services to Grafton have been cancelled.
From TripView, it seems as of today (Sat 31 July):
  • F4 Pyrmont Bay services are now running hourly instead of every 30 minutes.
