The original lines were lifted and relaid to the east to facilitate the construction of the metro tunnel mouth a few years ago.

I understand this work involved creating a new DOWN line alignment which was constructed to the west of the the existing track. All new track and OH was laid in that section and this work simply involved slewing the connections across?

To allow for work on the tunnel, the down line was relaid east of its original alignment around the same time that Chatswood station was closed for conversion to metro standards, so some time in 2018/19. IIRC the up was also moved slightly east to accommodate the relaid down. Now that the tunnel has been completed, the down line has been slewed to its final position over the mouth.

C or K set spotted at Seven Hills this morning and even odder M3 has just left Kingswood City Bound.

Very unusual to see an M set in Kingswood except on Origin Nights.

Last week's single Oscar workings on Central Coast services that start at Blacktown has been reinstated to 8 Carriages.

Yesterday evening, a Tangara was running a late T5 service from Blacktown towards Leppington. I think this was due to urgent repairs at Schofields yesterday late afternoon. The situation of using unusual train sets in the region seemed to have continued to this morning.

I noticed this morning that a Tangara ran the 5:45am Blacktown - Richmond and 6:41am Richmond - Gordon services. Not a common sight for anything other than a Waratah or Millennium to run to the terminus of that line, although it seems to happen every now and then.

Tangaras running as a T1 on the Richmond line is not too unusual, Tangaras running a T5 would be.

As far as I'm aware no Tangaras run to Richmond before 9am so that's the unusual part of the spotting that person made also I've seen Tangaras on T5 in the shoulder peak in the Evening on T5 previously.

There are no Tangaras scheduled to run to Richmond at any time in the present timetable. The only Tangaras scheduled to run on that line operate peak services terminating at Schofields.

All services that run beyond Schofields are Waratahs, aside from two late night services on weekdays to Richmond that run with a 4-car M set. Not that unusual for a Tangara to substitute for a Waratah on that line, but it doesn't happen every day.

There are some runs on that line in the shoulder peak and also the evening, which arrive as a T1 service, then depart as a T5 to Leppington. That's the reason why occasionally you'll see a Tangara running on the T5 line, as it's on one of those runs that had originated at Hornsby earlier on.

Just noticed that according to real time trip trackers, there's a V-Set operating a service from Strathfield to Newcastle Interchange. Under normal circumstances they no longer run on the CCN Line of a weekend and what remains at Newcastle is parked in one of the side yards (Hamilton, Broadmeadow etc)

Image

Not sure if the so called "special events" have anything to do with this supposed V set running.

Upgrades to inner west stations before services reroute to eastern suburbs
https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/upg ... 57ge9.html
Major upgrades will be carried out on two inner west train stations as the government prepares to increase capacity on the existing rail network and link commuters directly to the eastern suburbs.

St Peters and Erskineville stations will receive $40 million in upgrades, subject to planning approval, with work slated to begin later this year.

The upgrades are expected to be completed by 2024 ahead of the Metro City and Southwest opening, and include new lifts, a commuter footbridge and a southern entrance at Erskineville station.

As the Sydenham to Bankstown line is converted to a Metro line, its existing services will be funnelled into the T2, T8, T4 Illawarra line and South Coast line.

Transport Minister Andrew Constance said the changes would see a 30 per cent increase to services on the T4 line, or space for 6000 more commuters.

As a result of the work, commuters at St Peters and Erskineville will soon travel exclusively on the T4 Illawarra line, linking them directly to Martin Place and the eastern suburbs.

“At St Peters and Erskineville, it will mean more modern and accessible stations as well as a boost in train services, however, there will be a change in travel patterns,” Mr Constance said. “We’re planning for the future now to ensure customers have a seamless experience from start to end.”

The government says some customers on the T4 line will receive a faster journey to Town Hall Station, with all services travelling directly to Central and Town Hall stations by 2024.

The government will also build new canopies at Erskineville station, as well as new toilets, upgraded CCTV and lighting.

A government review into the impact of the upgrades is under way, with community consultation open until Tuesday for Erskineville station. The consultation period for St Peters station has closed.

“The great news is when Metro comes online, Sydney Trains customers will also see benefits,” Mr Constance said.

The NSW government set aside $1 billion in its recent half-yearly budget update to bolster the existing rail network capacity in time for the Metro City and Southwest’s opening.

Once Metro is operational, T3 Bankstown line services will no longer operate to St Peters or Erskineville stations.

Morning peak services will increase by 80 per cent at the Domestic, International, Mascot and Green Square stations on the T8 line, while an extra 4800 customer spaces will be created on the inner west T2 line, with a train expected every three minutes.

The funding for increased services will be allocated under the state government’s ‘More Trains, More Services’ fund, which will begin in 2022.

If ever there was more of a need to upgrade Wolli Creek and add P5&6 it’s now. Maybe even a walkway to Tempe even, and close Tempe

Why not 7 and 8 also on the line between T8 and T4?

IIRC, once the T3 services cease, the plan is to use the western pair of tracks for limited stops services and the eastern pair for all stops to Hurstville services with South Coast passengers changing at either Hurstville or Central to get to the airport.

Well, some. It looks like the vast majority will receive a slower service due to the addition of stops at St. Peters and Erskineville - did I get that right?

Every little bit counts, it will be noticeable in the long run. I'm not objecting to the plan, there's probably no better way to do it. I just hate the press releases where they comment on some tiny improvement somewhere, while completely ignoring the disadvantages.

There are winners and losers in any recasting of stopping patterns, two additional stops aren't going to cause that much drama, and really it is the only option.
