The identity of preferred bidder has been known within the industry for a while. Perhaps there has been a hitch in getting the contract signed, or the government is choosing to sit on it.

Or perhaps could it be that negative feedback on the recent changes to Region 7 have thrown a spanner in the works and the government may wish to renegotiate the terms of the contract?

I wonder if they'll get rid if those silly cloth seats and start replacing them with the much more practical blue vinyl.

Did Brookie go to Koualis Downer or something?
I expect a lot of Willo drivers will put in for a transfer to Kincumber and Wyong now, unless the RTBU remains.

Why this obsession with a material that it's inherently unhygienic in a PT setting, particularly in this era?

This has been the rumour for some time now but still no official announcement. If correct, which I assume it is, it is a big gain for Busways who recently also gained a contract in Adelaide, after losing region 15 last time around.

Was posted on this board over a month ago that Busways was the winner, but then somebody who professes to know all was a bit put out by not being the newsbreaker so it was deleted.

Or in other words, legitimate intel was deleted. I imagine the person who shared the information won't bother next time. And people wonder why numbers on this board have declined.

Historically notable because, of all the government bus regions, this was one that was extensively and continuously operated by privates, even after 1932. Regions 6, 8 and 9 were dense tramway regions in which government buses also took up an increasing role since 1932, eventually replacing the tramways. Region 7 had only three tramlines, to Ryde, Willoughby and Lane Cove and government buses crept in only gradually, first replacing the trams and opening up the new Epping Rd corridor (de facto railway). Government buses didn't fill out the region until they began progressively taking over various private operations since the 1960s, spurred on by a favourable High Court decision that gave them open slather. Now the region is in the hands of one of the few surviving old private operators in NSW, sort of poetic justice I think.

I think it's awesome that Busways got it's hands on it.
It's an Australian family business soon to be serving Sydney's North Shore after being associated with Sydney's outskirts.
Congratulations Busways.

Perhaps the moderators decided that it was best to wait for the official announcement in case anything happened along the way that might change things. After all:

The contributor was asked to supply official confirmation which he could not supply hence it was only a rumour and NOT legitimate. See board guidelines.

It wasn't a secret, I knew and if I did many would have. There were plenty of tell-tale signs for those looking which will probably be available when region 9 is decided.

Many people "knew" but there's still a difference between that and an actual announcement. I get told many things about the industry which can go into a subsequent issue of Australian Bus Panorama but can't be put immediately on line as its not yet "official".

Pfff... an internet forum that is outrun by a bi-monthly publication that arrives by snail mail. Little wonder this board has become irrelevant.

How exactly? I imagine a few of us are privy to information prior to when it's officially released, but choose not to because it could damage relationships based on honesty and trust. Apart from which, something may change between learning the information and when it's formally released. Either way, nowadays it's going to enter the public arena via internet before print.

But what happens if ABP arrives hits the streets before an announcement is made?

As I read it, Iwhoknows appears to suggest that he can make a submission to ABP of something yet to be announced, because it will have been announced by the time it is published.

Linto is more or less correct but, as ABP editor, I can pull an item out out or put it in up until going to print. But if its in confidence is does not go on here or on FB until official.
