When I say to be used on the suburban system, the interurbans share key stops with the suburban operation and having matching door spacings and other dimensions with suburban trains is critical to this.

It's funny the subtle ways that TfNSW and the government is now trying to paint the Vs as grungy old trains to boost up the intro of the NIF, but all the contributors to the government social media are heaping nothing but praise on the Vs and getting nervous about what the new trains are going to be like. Big boots to fill there obviously. It reminds me of how those great standard suburban sets suddenly became "red rattlers" to the government (even though they didn't rattle!) prior to their demise.

It made a visit to Lithgow on Sunday evening, which was it's first trial run that far west, and the first visit of any double deck electric other than a V set to Lithgow.

There are a number of videos floating around on Youtube channels of it.

D2 was at Newcastle Interchange today, I of course had no idea that this was even planning to do the day trip down there since I don't really have any information what so ever but one of my other friends managed to get some photos while down there.

Kangy Angy welcomes first New Intercity Fleet train

The first New Intercity Fleet train has travelled from Sydney to the multi-million dollar Kangy Angy Maintenance Facility, marking a major milestone in the new fleet’s delivery.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch said the arrival of the new train at Kangy Angy was part of the testing phase of the New Intercity Fleet, making the roll-out of the 55 10-car trains to Central Coast residents one step closer.

“The Central Coast and Newcastle Line will be the first in NSW to benefit from the New Intercity Fleet, which will deliver safer, more accessible and comfortable journeys,” Mr Crouch said.

“The 24-hour-run Kangy Angy Maintenance Facility was purpose-built for the New Intercity Fleet, where the trains will be washed, maintained and serviced. It is close to 500,000 square metres in size, has about six kilometres of electric rail lines, a new rail bridge and offices and amenities for staff.”

Acting Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the Central Coast train was one of three New Intercity Fleet trains currently being tested across the state to ensure a successful roll-out later this year.

“These new trains are fully accessible for our less mobile customers, building upon our vision to help make public transport a first-choice option for people living in the regions,” Mr Toole said.

“This is such an exciting development for the thousands of customers who travel between the city and these areas every day.”

Minister for Transport and Roads Andrew Constance said on top of delivering more comfortable and convenient journeys for customers, the new trains have created about 1,600 jobs, including about 90 local jobs during the construction of the Kangy Angy Maintenance Facility.

“Customers on the New Intercity Fleet will enjoy more spacious two-by-two seating, mobile device charging ports, modern heating and air conditioning, and dedicated spaces for luggage, prams and bicycles,” Mr Constance said.

“Automatic Selective Door Operation, obstruction detection and traction interlocking are just some of the safety features on these new trains.”

Pending successful completion of testing, the New Intercity Fleet will be introduced progressively, starting with the Central Coast and Newcastle Line later this year, followed by the Blue Mountains and South Coast lines.

I wonder whether the new intercity fleet will be able to travel beyond 115km/h?
With Northconnex, Westconnex and M6 Motorway, intercity trains will become much less attractive as it is much faster to drive than catching the train.

If our train is not speeding up, then in the long term we are going to see a massive decrease in patronage on Intercity trains which will make this investment worthless.

I think trains need to speed up to maintain its attractiveness or it may be better to replace them with buses instead.

Most likely a training run that was accidentally set up in the system as a passenger carrying service.

It was listed on tripview for a few days before being removed on Monday. Currently the service is listed as a 'Charter' service on trip planner.

Totally out of touch given the Metro has been operating without Drivers and Guards

Technology (ie cameras) means the job can be done more efficiently - which helps protects drivers jobs on the Intercity long-term.

Guards jobs are not long for this world.

This is the same union that is saying that the governments plan to put the remeining 3 STA contracts up for tender will equal to the winning bidders overriding Transport For NSW and have a feild day with cutting the number of stops and services

What, you mean to say that between our Hornby train sets and Trainz we don't know enough yet ?

I have an open mind. Tell me what is different about NSW commuter train operation and the same in Perth, Melbourne etc where there is only a driver. I don't want to argue the point, I genuinely want to know the issues.
