The $3.1b just keeps on giving don't it?
No need to keep the bus services going.

RTD seems all screwed up. A lot of services "cancelled" or "added".
Extremely poor communication as well, the LRVs were not moving at all between Haymarket and Chinatown stops even though it was NOT announced that the delay was isolated and not affecting that part of the line.

I actually walked from the original intended boarding stop and reached my destination stop before seeing that the LRV had started moving from a distance.

Gold Coast and Canberra don't have any worries for Sydney's L2 and L3 showing them up.

Definitely horrible communication. Realtime apps only had a small 'service information' notice which would have been easy to miss, and the actual services were not marked as 'cancelled' on apps. The notice did not mention this would be for the rest of the night, nor did it indicate where bus services would be operating from.

Signage at light rail stops was pretty useless, just saying pretty much 'buses replace trams, check transportnsw.info'. No information there either on whether buses would serve that stop (usually bus replacements skip Surry Hills, Wansey Rd, UNSW High St, etc.).

Still no trams for this morning's peak. Replacement buses running, but I wonder how they will cope with the Uni crowds?

Apps just showing "RTD not available", with a little alert at the top of the screen.

My law tutorial this morning is relatively empty, with a large number of tram related no shows. Friends report hour long waits to board replacement buses whilst all 393/5s went past full

As part of yesterday’s rainfall calamity, some interesting footage in this article shows a tram stopped in the Moore Park tunnel, driver releasing the doors and letting passengers walk out

Anytrip showed very few buses in the outward direction this morning, mostly rigids, so it must have been a disaster for university commuters.

This was probably the tram that caused the problem.

As of 17:00, there were 2 trams sitting NIS in the Kensington platforms, and an outbound NIS at Marks. I spoke to a driver at a bus stop and he said there were trams at all the platforms. When I asked if they were just waiting for the "green light" to go into service, his response was "I doubt it". The driver was trying to get a taxi to get to Central to start his city shuttle shift, I didn't ask why he didn't catch a bus?

Current service alerts state the service is out until 16:00 Saturday

I did notice a LR Replacement bus come up Cleveland St and turn left into Anzac Pde. I wonder if they are going to operate trams to/from Moore Park, with buses between there and Central?

There's no capability at all to interchange at Moore Park, so I can't imagine so.

The buses park outside SGHS on Anzac Pde and pax walk across the bridge. Buses run in a loop Fitzroy/Foveaux, Elizabeth, Cleveland.

Sensible passengers can still get regular services direct to/from the city

Apparently people were locked in the tram for 15-20 minutes, then this:

Oh you mean terminate services from Randwick/Kingsford at Moore Park and reverse? Yes there's a scissors crossover on the up side of Moore Park stop, but you couldn't turn citybound services around on it -- the track descends for the tunnel immediately on the city-side of it. AFAIK the crossover is only to allow city-Moore Park shuttles to terminate on either platform at Moore Park.

I have been on an inbound service that got terminated at MP, as I described. I am aware of other times. Trams used the crossovers without problems.

In the clip provided by tonyp above, https://www.facebook.com/MarjorieONeill ... 2161102961 with about 40 seconds left in the clip, you can see a Signal on the Inbound track facing to Outbound Trams.
That's probably provided to allow Trams to shunt from the Inbound to the Outboard Platform at the Moore Park Stop.

Randwick Council is reporting flooding on Alison Rd in the vicinity of Darley Rd. Wonder how this is affecting tram crossings?

I notice on TripView that L2 has a lot of "unscheduled services" running.

I wonder how passengers 'tap off' if they have 'tapped on'?

They would walk up to the platform and tap off there.

Perhaps they should install Opal readers at either end of the tunnel!

Think that's fair enough.
Takes some time to determine if it's a minor incident, so you can restart then move on

Or a major one, in which case evacuating the passengers in the tunnel would be the burst solution.

There would be a raft of "safety protocols" to be observed before allowing passengers to wander around in the tunnel. There is only one crew member on board to supervise. Presumably all the staff with clipboards on the platforms are not qualified for this.

So if there was a major accident that closed the Eastern Distributor, passengers on express buses would be free to just tell the driver 'lemme off'?

Eastgardens to Kingsford is a 1-2 section fare.
