Could we have a separate "metro vs DD" thread for that debate, and leave this thread for news about this line?

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
I'd say no longer necessary if some folk let go of questioning the validity of extending metro lines throughout western Sydney and accept it as a perfectly normal given. Then we can just follow the progress of the various projects as they unfold without questioning whether the technology is valid or not.boronia wrote:Could we have a separate "metro vs DD" thread for that debate, and leave this thread for news about this line?
I only waded into this because of all the uninformed scorn heaped on the metro and the derisive "kiddie-toy" remarks and so on. It needed somebody to explain and defend it. Now that it has started running, I note from chat on the web that it has plenty of defenders among its actual users in the NW, which is the ultimate endorsement. On one occasion, Ecotransit's manifesto about "saving" the Bankstown line was posted on a NW metro-users Facebook group and attracted only derisive comments. Once people start using the metro, the double-deck dam collapses and it's all over bar the shouting. Time to move on.

I agree - we have now exhausted that metro v Double deckers subject in various threads - So if there is any more please start a separate thread.boronia wrote:Could we have a separate "metro vs DD" thread for that debate, and leave this thread for news about this line?

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Many of these decisions made by TfNSW and it predecessors, like getting rid of trams, introduction of double deckers etc, were made over 50 years ago. Sure some of these were with the benefit of hindsight not necessarily the wrong way to go, but what happened happened and no amount of lamenting will change it.tonyp wrote:I am frustrated though that I was born too early, during that seventy year hiatus when nothing was done except patch-up stuff (though glad to experience the old tram system while it was there) and won't be around long enough to enjoy the exciting times ahead for Sydney's public transport and its two new modes. The younger ones have plenty to look forward to!
The 'if only they had done this' stuff, along with the predicting of what will happen in the future only and then declaring it it's all over bar the shouting, time to move on based on what you hope (rather than know) will happen, is both tedious and conceited.

History repeating. Build a railway, development follows. What more proof do you want that rail services are highly wanted by the populace, yet elites at the top think they know what we want and constantly insist it's more roads we need.boronia wrote:Up to 5600 homes to surround Kellyville and Bella Vista metro stations

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The link still works but the news item as such seems to have disappeared from the Transport Info website news. Still no new Metro timetable from 6/11 with the current one still showing the restricted hours of operation.

The trip finder no longer uses routes NW1 and NW2 after 5 November but has not started to uses the Metro during that time so showing various other bus and train trips during that time.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The trip finder is still having problems as posted last Saturday but the North West bus timetables now show as finishing today and there is a new Metro timetable starting tomorrow to cover the times previously covered by the bus routes.

Only noticed today, but it may have occurred earlier, 4 min frequency service peak now appears to be starting 30 min earlier from Tallawong from just before 6.00 am, rather than just before 6.30 am.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
6:25am is ridiculous. That means about 6:45am is the first service from Epping. It used to be earlier with Sydney Trains.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Re-read the conversation. They're talking about when peak frequency of a train every 4 minutes begins, not when actual services start.Swift wrote:6:25am is ridiculous. That means about 6:45am is the first service from Epping. It used to be earlier with Sydney Trains.
Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Probably the desperate rush for parking spots is bringing everything forward. So the parking stations, instead of being full by 0700, they'll be full by 0630. There must be a lot of flexitime in the workplace nowadays.

Literally. Took a metro service from Epping to Chatswood yesterday afternoon at around 3 pm. Very well patronised even at 10 min intervals.Geo101 wrote:Build it and they will come?

The ECRL wouldn't have gone near that sort of patronage.
