Those front seatbelts look interesting, with the sash portion looking like it is attached to the seat and comes onto the body when seated and the door is closed, then you clip in the lap portion, with the eject lever on the console to release it all in the event of an accident.

All the extra buzzers and beepers when the ignition was turned on(presumably for the seat belt system) would of driven you mad.

Motorweek turns 40 this year, and it looks like John Davis has been there since the start, did also enjoy watching the live Motorweek broadcasts on Youtube during our severe lockdown in Melbourne last year.

Lots, if not all, cars in America from the 80s and 90s did that. Must be to do with regs.

This is one of my favourite car tours on the channel.

Found this VN Calais with a very rare factory manual/V8 combo.

https://www.australianmusclecarsales.co ... ual-244350

Notice it does not have cruise control, apparently cruise control was only in auto VN's and you lost it if you ordered a manual Berlina or Calais.

Hopefully it will find a nice home and not end up in a drag race somewhere.

I just want a standard late 90 or 91 build VN with the VP spec V6 in auto though very open to a manual but like my cruise control. Did the VN or VP executive have cruise control as an option?

From my memory, the spec sheet I used to have said cruise was available in the Exec as long as it was auto and you also specified an electric aerial. Of course the Exec based Vacationer(late 90 special)and LE models(run out 1991 Exec value pack) has cruise and power aerial standard.

My late nan's late long time boarder had a light blue metallic VN Vacationer he bought new in 1990. I doubt he used the cruise. All his cars sat in the sun a lot not being driven every day, so their paints would deteriorate. I don't remember his beige HK Kingswood ever suffering the problem but his 1978 metallic pine green HZ he got used in the 80s sure did with surface rust covering the roof, bonnet and boot before he got the VN.
The paint on the Commodore was falling off in flecks revealing the undercoat by the late 1990s but no rust was evident (yet) when he passed away then.
I don't think paint quality was very good with Holdens up to that era at least, particularly the light metallic paints used by the VN.

Holden used an old acrylic based paint system until 1994, when they moved across to some enamel based system, but even the later VR builds and VS onwards had poor paint, even after they splashed millions on this paint facility.

The best 90's Commodores were the white ones.

The Australian taxpayer were clearly getting great value for their money protecting the iconic Holden brand ...

We had a '92 EB Falcon in Emerald Green for a few years - it was garaged for most of it's life, but seldom (if ever) washed by the relatives that had it before us. When it was sold at the age of 17, it still looked quite smart with no peeling or faded paint. It did have one of the preferred ailments of the domestic breeds though - rust, in the corners of both front doors where the windscreen presumably drained into.

There's an immaculate dark emerald green EB falcon sedan floating around my area as I've seen it at my LPG installer mechanic a few times of late.

That was the Everglade green that was very popular back then, my neighbour at the time had a 1992 EBII Fairmont wagon in that colour.

I had a quick drive of an ED Fairmont wagon once. It was an absolute pleasure. Wish I bought it.

I have been told the 3.9 mpfi engine used up to and including the short lived EB series 1 had better top end power delivery than the 4.0.

I always thought "Everglade" was just a funny memory of mine, not the actual paint name!

Snapped these vintage machines when gunzelling on Saturday:

HJ Kingswood with original plates (with a steering lock but no door!) near Mont Albert station, and a late model T2 Kombi camper with a Taswegian plate at Ringwood behind Jaycar.

Love to turn that Holden into a mock taxi.

Took a picciewiccie tonight of this extraordinarily straight XH panel van. It looked to be in faultless shape. Would make a great stealth camper this one.
Check out the rims.

Nice People's bus there too Hitachi. Would make a better camper than the Ford, if a bit less powerful.

Saw a 1990's Toyota MR2 today on Victorian club plates while on my allowed 2 hours exercise walk, then sat down to watch Wheeler Dealers on 9Now, and there was a 1991 MR2 being flipped on the program, poor old Ant Anstead had to rip out the engine to replace a $7 coolant hose(but decided to replace the clutch and other bits while the engine was out).
