Parrahub and Sydney to Melbourne Maglev via Canberra
I now believe people would be prepared to travel on an atmospheric proven 600km/h Japanese maglev rather than any Hyperloop https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-09/ ... m/12865148
As farmers would never allow CLARA across their paddocks, I suggest a single tunnel between Sydney and Melbourne with passing stations at Albury and Canberra.
The problem I saw first hand at Tower colliery was that even though they had done much surface testing they ran into a huge fault only 50m from pit bottom and as a TBM needs very accurate ground information it would be best to drive a pilot tunnel.
I am sure there would be other volunteers past their use by date prepared to sign a waiver with the experience to drive this with an old Joy 12 miner which would allow blasting, forepoling or predrive grouting where required.
Now is the time to start this with so much cheap money to allow far cleaner and more reliable trips.

If there is anyone who is sufficiently interested to sign a waiver in driving it, I can be emailed at mistereddb@gmail.comeddy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 9:37 am I now believe people would be prepared to travel on an atmospheric proven 600km/h Japanese maglev rather than any Hyperloop https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-11-09/ ... m/12865148

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev
Eventually we will have HSR Sydney to Canberra and any money spent on upgrading the existing line just to please developers would be wasted.
I do believe we should not miss this window of opportunity to start now and indeed if it is planned for Maglev it will be far cheaper to run without the maintenance required on pantograph, wheels and rail.

Thought I would bump this up because with Maglev you do not have to do this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usJl6mM5Qw0

Have you ever known that to be necessary in Australia??? So does not mean much.

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev
I suppose it may with CLARA but the bigger problem is rails bending in the heat.Fleet Lists wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 12:43 pm Have you ever known that to be necessary in Australia??? So does not mean much.

After watching Clare O’Neal https://iview.abc.net.au/video/NC2011C044S00 I thought even though I may never live long enough to see the completion perhaps if a start was made others would be encouraged to volunteer.
As it would be in a direct line across Lake George that may be the best place to start driving towards Canberra with a drift down to a point vertically in line with the Sydney/Canberra pilot tunnel and depositing excavated material around it to prevent any chance of flooding in the future.

I think Lake George would be grateful to have any water at all, let alone worry about flooding.

Occasionally it does have some water in it and it is essential the pilot tunnel never gets flooded.

Sydney/Canberra Maglev
I think the best place to start the Sydney/Melbourne Maglev pilot drive would be at Lake George with a drift towards Canberra but to know what depth it would be the location and depth of the Canberra passing station must be known.
Where would you people like it?

Re: Sydney/Canberra Maglev
If the Canberra airport is 567m elevation and Lake George is 673m I suggest a passing station near the Airport to avoid Lake Burly Griffin when it is extended to Melbourne.

This is the email I sent to these guys http://www.geomaps.com.au/scripts/lakegeorge.php as I was not sure who would give permission.
Would it be possible for a team of voluntary workers who want to start a pilot drive Sydney/Canberra starting with a drift towards Canberra from Lake George and using the excavated material to prevent it from flooding.
It would be done with a Joy 12 miner at a depth of 100m.
Regards Eddy.

Re: Sydney/Canberra Maglev
This is the email I sent to the Prime minister.
Hi
Australia could play the same game as the Chinese by saying we intend using our coal miners to build the Sydney/Melbourne Japanese Maglev.
This would give them a taste of their own medicine as it would greatly annoy them Australia buying a Japanese Maglev in preference to their HSR.
To convince them we are serious perhaps we can just get a team to start driving a pilot tunnel from Lake George to Canberra airport with a Joy 12 miner and a team of volunteers of which I would only be too happy to be a part of.
I believe Sydney/Canberra Japanese Maglev would be economically viable while allowing freight trains greater freedom and this would be a way to quietly send a signal that they cannot interfere with our free speech.
Regards Eddy Barnett

Got an email from the International Maglev Board today saying China is going to use German Maglev to go 400km.
Good luck with that with only one tenth the clearance.

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev via Canberra
This is the snail mail I sent to ANZ today
Hi
I read today ANZ is not investing in coal anymore so perhaps they may be interested in building a Sydney/Melbourne Japanese Maglev with passing stations at Canberra and Albury that would not only grab the attention of China but could employ all the unemployed coal miners.
At 600km/h, with virtually no maintenance, it would put these cities 20 minutes apart and save upgrading the existing rail line allowing the freight trains greater freedom.
Sydney/Canberra could be done in 5 years with 20 teams from ten shafts using the Niagara TBM which is twice as fast as the Japanese tunnel of 5m per day and big enough to allow 600km/h.
I suggest the federal government could print the money making the A$ more competitive and allowing ANZ to pay the contractors after they completed every kilometre.
I am sure the Federal government, Japanese Maglev and your green investors would be interested but what does the ANZ bank think?

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev via Canberra
If the Canadian $ is almost the same as the Australian $ then this Robbins TBM https://www.therobbinscompany.com/proje ... l-project/ which did 10 km for $1b could complete the 200km from ten shafts in 5 years using 20 teams of unemployed coal miners for $20b.
Now I know this was ten years ago but by using the far better 10cm clearance Japanese Maglev it sure would make the Chinese settle down a bit as they only want to use the German Magtube which is not only slower but has only 1cm clearance.

Hyperloop sent me this update https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKvbSboQ5_g and while I agree the tunnel cost would be less, I do not believe the general public would go in a pressure reduced tunnel.

I am impressed that Scott Morrison asked Ben Norton to reply to me with a letter basically saying while we will keep our ideals China is a very important trading partner.

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev via Canberra
This was my response to Scott Morrison.
I really appreciate you taking the time to respond Reference: MC20-179952 on 16/12/20
As the average depth of the Parramatta/Canberra airport tunnel would be at least 100m it would be in competent rock which is the easiest for this large hardrock TBM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x4igzBxwLM
20 of these machines at $200m each could complete the drive from ten shafts so the Japanese Maglev could be operating within 5 years.
I suggest the Japanese Maglev as not only is it faster but has 10cm clearance where the German one is more complicated with only 1cm clearance.
I feel the minute the 20 TBM are ordered the Australia/China tensions will disappear.
Regards Eddy Barnett.

Re: Sydney to Melbourne Maglev via Canberra
Here is an old 1997 study on HSR Sydney/Canberra when interest rates were higher, Japanese Maglev was at that time unproven with speeds of only 400km/h and far less potential patronage. https://www.aph.gov.au/sitecore/content ... 97/97cib17
I believe the minute an order is placed for the 20 TBM China/Australia will forget our differences and we shall maintain all our exports to them.
With this in mind $20b outlay with $1b return p/a is not too bad considering a 600km/h trip with very little maintenance in the future.
It would be running in 5 years.
