Surely an equally significant part of the announcement, not reflected in the thread name, is the first noted use of Custom Denning as the new brand name for the combined operations.

The video also states that these buses are due to delivery to operators in March next year.

ABC’s article mentions that there will be 5 prototypes! 4 Electric, 1 hydrogen
They will be spending some time with different operators and of course will be tested and evaluated

Wow! Looks amazing !

One could assume that all the CD (custom denning... wait - should the abbreviation be a thing we use?) elements chassis will be built in the ex Denning facility in Brisbane because they have all the human and non-human resources to build the buses there. Unless they train and supply another facility.

Exciting times though!

Trouble with CD as an abbreviation is that its already in use for Coach Design.

Any idea when operators will get to trail it? I suppose we don't know until the initial testing has been successful.

So apparently the Elements are supposed to be full low floor, but how come they don't have a rear door at the back?

If it's a European (LHD) chassis, various underseat components are probably still on the European offside, so it's not possible to have a rear door on that side for Australia. The other thing is that there's probably something in the regs in NSW nowadays that doesn't allow buses to have rear doors. As long as many decades ago, Hunters Hill Bus Co was required to fill in one doorway when it brought a number of three-door Adelaide Worldmasters into NSW. There seems to be a "thing" about doors in the NSW bus sector. The less of them the better apparently and anybody who tries to enter them other than by the front is in the bad books.

Back on your old hobby horse. There is NOTHING in the regulations to say that a bus should not have a back door. Things have changed a lot since the Hunters Hill Bus Co days.

With Busabout, Busways, Forest and Trabsdev having purchased buses with rear doors in numbers in the 1990s, we can put the myth that rear doors have been prohibited since the 1970s to bed. But with few if any having been built in the succeeding 20 years, appears operators prefer the centre door configuration. Most likely that Hunters Hill came to the conclusion as did many other operators, e.g. Ventura in Melbourne, that a third door served no purpose and removed it.

I believe the MTT (Adelaide) blocked up the read door after 1 man operation began - easier to prevent fare evasion. But I’ll let someone more knowledgeable on the topic confirm that

I’m not sure (besides a few exceptions) we need a rear door on rigids in Australia - low floor and all door boarding is long overdue though
