Mystery Hino? Help?

Post by BFG »

:?: Advertised as 1989 Hino RU638B. 40ft apparently :?:
Does anyone know anything about this model coach?
What engine and gearbox combination?
Underpowered? or plenty enough for towing a car/trailer?
How did they drive?
and parts availability?

Thanks in advance.

looks like an import job, so don't know if many on here have driven or worked on them. I certainly haven't.

At a guess it would be an upright engine probably the same or similar fitted to their truck range with a syncro 5 or 6 speed hanging off the back.

Would probably tow a car and trailer ok if you just have a small run around

Parts will need to be imported. Thats a bad deal if you're out on the highway and you need parts from Japan.Better off sticking to local models of any vehicles.

Probably at least 15 years old, good luck finding bits in Japan for it.

How many Hino trucks here 15 years ago had this size engine?

I think the biggest issue would be trying to replace that huge front windscreen.

This is HINO P-RU638BB and this is the last series in HINO Blue-Ribbon coach...After this series they gave a series name which is named "S'ELEGA" セレガ ...
About this series , it's belong to Blue-Ribbon and juz got a code name was "RU60 and RU63". Moreover , that series seprated "earlier stage series" and "later stage series".What's different between that 2 stages?Actually , they modified the face and some technology...

Furthermore , this HINO installed the HINO EF750 series engine...the wheelbase is 6.6m

You might want to enquire from truck wreckers or truck buyers what this is and the parts availability. There are lots of them around, Just try to search for anyone near you.

Hi, I just purchased the same model bus. An RU638. There is very little info on the web for it. I'm chasing any information on the transmission, in particular how to drive it correctly. There are some indicator lights on the tach surround that I dont understand. Can anyone shed some light on them?

I've attached two pictures. One of the selector and the other of the tacho surround.

There is no physical linkage from front to back, it appears to be all pneumatic. Maybe that is normal for buses ( I don't know, I'm out of my depth)

Thank you for looking at this post.

Hello Sir,

Yes I do require the complete set of manuals. Do you have them in digital or hard copy? Is it possible to view them.

Kind regards
James.

Good Day,

Well only this morning after purchasing a drivers manual from Japan and translating little sections I have found what these 3 lamps grouped on the tacho mean.

They relate to driving style and are for guidance on driving the bus economically. Its an optional feature for the RU63 bus series.

See attached image.

Still havent worked out the gears. Or this transmission system. Believe it is know as an "FF transmission". No idea what that stands for or means.

Best regards,
James
