Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
One of the Denning built coaches that wasnt as popular as its Landseer variations was the Hi-Deck(as in high deck).Werent a lot of them. I'd like to some feedback on this model. Not to be confused with the Landseer Hi-Screen version of the Landseer coach.
How many were built? What year were they introduced and when did they cease production of them? Were there any built on other chassis like MAN,Scania,Volvo,Mercedes, etc? Was there any companies who had several in their fleets?
Did the "Truck & Bus" magazine do an article on the coach? I remember them being displayed at the bus shows with the other Denning models.
You are welcome to contribute anything related to the Hi-Deck Landseer and Landseer variations please add them here..
Thanks to everyone for joining in on this topic.
This is the Hi-Deck model.

Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
I've driven all models of the denning. The high deck I think handled the best of all models, not sure why perhaps the lower driving position gave it more a sports car feel.
The two I drove were 88 /90 models with 6v92 (one was an ex McAf) s, all the others I ever saw had 8v92s.
Still the landseer was the best all rounder in my opinion, the oldies hated the extra steps into the high deck...

It had a straight roof, without the dip in the front

I got the same "euphoria" driving the super hi-deck PMC Scanias. It was nice being cocooned in my own little world under the floorlandseer1 wrote:I've driven all models of the denning. Hi Screen was the normal Landseer but the windscreens were taller.8 SPEED wrote:Not sure what you mean by high screen, does anyone have a photo of a high screen?

I liked the idea the Hi Deck had a lower driver position.landseer1 wrote:I've driven all models of the denning. The high deck I think handled the best of all models, not sure why perhaps the lower driving position gave it more a sports car feel.

I think the Austral high deck HD1 might have outsold them though.
Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
I wonder of the high deck might have been more popular if it had been available on other chassis' as well like Scania,Volvo,MAN,MB,etc.
Although they would have to alter them cosmetically. They were always a nice looking coach. Did they ever put the high deck screens on a standard Landseer? They did have competition from Volgren Twin Deck,PMC Apollo High Decks/Super High Decks,Austral HD1,Custom Coach Hyliner, etc.

Here's a photo showing the 3 models at the time,from left are:8 SPEED wrote:Any photo's please?
Landseer Hi-Deck,Landseer Hi-Screen and the standard Landseer coach.
Note that both the Hi-screen and standard Landseer are the same height.Only the screens and the front roof sections are the only differences.
Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
Hi Denv12
Any chance of getting a better shot of the three models?
Pm if you like I'd be very grateful
Cheers

Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
Looking at that photo of the 3 Landseer's it seems that the drivers position in the Hi-Deck was the same as a standard Landseer
Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
Thanks anyway nice shot!
The driving position does look similar, perhaps just the perspective of the deck been higher or the dual tag..... Like I mentioned after driving all the models it handled the nicest to me!

Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
The high screen PMC Apollo's were hell for the drivers with the amount sunlight/heat they let into the cab. We had to build canopies over the driver's seat to provide some protection.
Wonder if the Dennings had the same problem?

The Dual tag Landseer's were also a foot shorter in the wheelbase, I have #1216 Hi- Deck and it sure is nice to drive
Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
I think all high decks had the same problem with too much light coming in. Even in the Volgren Twin Decks they had the curtains over the side windows and something to block some of the light over the driver.boronia wrote:The high screen PMC Apollo's were hell for the drivers with the amount sunlight/heat they let into the cab. Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
One thing that all Landseers had compared to the Denair models before them were the door width was narrower at the bottom compared to the Denair. They should have left the door width the same as the Denairs, etc.

Re: Denning Hi-Deck Landseer History.
Three of the best, in one of the above posts, somebody mentioned the High Deck performed better, it had aa different chassis to the conventional Landseer along with stiffer panard rods to keep it level.
With Manly Coaches having number plate TV15, I find that maby a bit confusing as AAT had 000 to 15 and held them in great regard.

Thanks escapes. Love the photo. Its a shame the hi-deck wasnt the popular high deck between Austral and Denning. Its interesting to see all Landseer versions together,it makes for interesting comparisons.escapes wrote:Three of the best, in one of the above posts, somebody mentioned the High Deck performed better, it had aa different chassis to the conventional Landseer along with stiffer panard rods to keep it level.
