Chris from an Adelaide perspective I'd like to put up George Quincy who operated Harcourt Gardens Bus Service and later the fantastic Adelaide Coachlines. From Premier Roadlines, John Wright.

Laurie MacBeth.
An early Redline all-round tour and express captain.
Laurie was extraordinarily capable in handling the various roles demanded of a professional Redline driver back in the 'founding' days of Interstate conducted tours, interstate express, and outback camping and accommodated tours.
There were many equally proficient Redline captains of his era, such as Gerry O'Brien, Amos Smith, Ray Collins, Leo White and Bob Warren.

This is great - keep the photo's coming too (if you have them)

I recall a bloke by the name of Graeme who rotated out of FNQ - he was with me in Cairns in 86-87 at Ansett Pioneer ...sandy haired with a moustach and a bit thin on top...bloody nice guy!!
(does anyone know his surname ...probably ended up with Greyhound Pioneer during the buy up!?)

I would have to throw my dad into this 'Bob 'Old Man' Harney' and for me growing up all the old Ansett people driving to the snow Haywood, Heffo, Glen etc etc.

This is us outside his coach sometime late 80s early 90s, sorry about the quality I will actually get around to scanning some of the photos properly soon.

The Howards were/are pretty good. Phonsie, Mick and Tony.

Phonise owned the road in the Austral and the two boys ran the Dennair's like a dream. Still remember them doing a U-turn in Sydney in the Dennair. up and over the median strip cause we had to go right and there was no turning bay.....

They also kept the vehicles immaculate during the tour. Clean overnight, good check over every morning.
Wishing Howards would paint ex 9205 into their livery and get her back on the road.... drool....

WOW ! blast from the past aplenty here ! Lots of names coming up from Sydney past. Dave west is still with Murrays and his son Aaron is keeping the family tradition going too. John Connolly spotted driving for Noel Dayes recently ( another good guy ) Quite a few of the Guys from Clipper tours in the 1990s come to mind as traditional coach drivers of the past.

ONE of the best coach captains FROM GREYHOUND/PIONEER was TOM JACKSON THE DRYEST HOUMOUR YOU COULD FIND and a good mate now living o/s. remember him when his early days starting a young family and money was tight but had many a meal with TOM & HIS WIFE MARGRET known them since 1965.

The one that I first got to know in the industry was Joe Poli (possibly spelt wrong) from Delwood Coaches at Granville in NSW.
Going back to the late '70's. Spent lots of trips chatting away to the Snowy Mtns or other trips I'd organised for my group. Always asked for Joe.
Either a Leyland Leopard /CCMC coach or one of their IBC/CCMC coaches.
Was a great human being and taught me it's not just buses, but also the people involved in the industry.
Have continued to meet other great operators in the industry as an enthusiast.
Think for yourself, while it's still legal !

I'd like to nominate James Eiben from Greyhound/Australian Coachlines in Sydney in 1993. Funny, cute, I enjoyed our midnight chat on the journey from Sydney to Brissy. Are there any captains/former captains here who worked with him?
