Custom Coaches body codes
Custom Coaches body codes
Mr Bean has become increasingly confused by the model numbers applied to various styles of Custom Coaches bodywork produced in the 1980's and 1990's. While the fleetlists helpfully provide many clues, some of the information on them appears to be inconsistent or conflicting.
Hence below are photos of all the CC body types I would like identified. I think I know the answers to many of them, but thought it best to post all here to start fresh and make sure. Anyone willing to have a crack at identifying them all?
Probably best to identify them as A, B, C, D.... as labelled.
Thanks
A: Step-deck
B: Square edge windscreen with round headlights
C: Square edge windscreen with square headlights
D: Curved windscreen with round headlights
E: Curved windscreen with square headlights
F: High deck with desto in separate window
G: High deck with desto behind windscreen
H: High deck with square roofline
I: Square edge windscreen with round headlights
J: Curved windscreen with round headlights
K: Curved windscreen with single headlights
L: Square edge windscreen with square headlights
M: Curved windscreen with square headlights
N: Windscreen extends all the way to top, round headlights
O: Windscreen extends all the way to top, square headlights
P: Same as above but slightly different bumper.

I'm afraid I cannot help with the body codes, but the last two photos are both of the same vehicle...

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
I have fixed it so the last picture is different to picture O. Thank you kindly for all that Trevor. Yeah please check when you have a chance and update if you find any changes. I wish I could work out CC's system in numbering those bodies - the numbers are all over the place! I shall have to make a wall chart and test myself daily until I learn them

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
Can some of the conflicting and inaccurate information on the fleetlists be pointed out please? Otherwise it will remain that way.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
Thanks Mr Bean - I will alert Dave C, who updates the CDC lists, of these.
One day when I have a few hours, I'll start to go through other lists and weed out errors.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
What sort of body do the earlier Buslines/Transdev O400s have? According to the fleet lists it says Series 210 but they look more like Series 238 to me.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
The main difference is the bit above the windscreen - so check that out next time you see one and you should get the answer.
.
Job done.
Job done.
Re: Custom Coaches body codes
They look nothing like the example given of a 210 and pretty much spot on for the example given of a Series 238 to my untrained eye. I'd hazard a guess that they are indeed Series 238 bodied and not 210 bodied.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
I thought that A was a Mk 81 step deck. Interesting - I hadn't heard of the VR suffix before.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
Mk 81 step deck version & Mk 82 straight deck bodies were built around the early eighties,
Picture "A" must be early from 70's ..just a bit before my time at Customs. So I think it was a Mk 12
The VR designation was for Vertical Window Pillars &
The SR designation was for Sloping Window Pillars
The SR version vanished when rollover laws came in.
Cheers Trevor

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
Ah ok, in the case some amendments to my list above would be required:
m/o 7509-7511 and 7662-765 would be Mk 85SR as they had sloped window pillars. I always thought these pillars were very funky but incredibly old fashioned. Were they sloped for aesthetics, or to make the bus look like it's going faster, or for some other reason?
And do you have a photo of a Mk 81 and Mk 82?

"And do you have a photo of a Mk 81 and Mk 82?"
Have a look at the Custom Coaches photo's, pic 99 Built for Hawkesbury Valley Mercedes..Is Mk 81
Mk82 is a straight deck version of that.
The Mk 81 & 82 models used lower Toyota Hiace Front Blinker/Clearance Lights.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
I found the above very interesting......
Can you advise me what do the present CC Codes mean - eg CB60 and CB80.
Thanks

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
A was 4509, new to Bowmans in 3/79. There was the option of the chassis supplied Lucas single candles that this one has or dual headlights.
The early 70's step decks generally had the fibreglass front with the headlight surrounds that curved around the side of the bus, like 6380 in the "Revesby" thread. After A was the front with the Hiace blinkers. (I reckon the best front ever).
I am by no means an expert, I just love CC bodies. My ultimate combination is the Harris Park straight deck B10Ms or ex-016 (Leopard) at Revesby. Just the ultimate. Totally impractical these days, but built like tanks and stylish.

A bit unsure about this one... it's a 1991 model B10M. Is it a "300" or a "Mk 85 VR"??

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
The Fleet List says that the bus you have mentioned-ex Liverpool Transport m/o 7364 (now m/o 5230 with Busabout)-has a 300 series CC body. Either way that B10M looks a little similar to Hawkesbury Valley's "310" B10Ms.

Re: Custom Coaches body codes
Unfortunately the link used is invalid as it a temporary link which can point at different buses from time to time as I get a different bus again so am not sure what it supposed to be pointing at. Ben O may be able to clarify.Ben O wrote:http://www.busaustralia.com/gallery/dis ... =128&pos=7

For me it pointed to m/o 9633 Busabout.
