Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

Looking at it in a national and international context, the root of the problem is not wages, but lack of interest in professional driving as a career. Young people are not attracted to the career (including truck driving) and older people are retiring. A lot of the younger drivers now seem to be no...

Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

Listen, we’re bordering into off-topic territory here so this will be the only reply I make on this, but I know this already. In fact, what you said should be obvious information regardless of what heavy vehicle licence a driver possesses, whether it’s a driver that’s been there for years or a driv...

Re: New Sydney and Outer Metro bus contracts (as from 2020)

With this level of intervention, I'm envious of how well the contracting system is working compared to the years when I was a regular user of DGT/UTA/STA buses in inner Sydney. In those days we'd put up with some shocking service lapses and there was no redress at all. The most you could do was rin...

Re: July 2023 AdMet timetable changes

Anytrip reported Torrens Transit’s Scania L94UB #1208 as the last 900 last night. First numbered in 1972, this brought an end to the 51 year history of the route.

Now there are no regular service routes in the 900 range (only school and other special services now use this range).

Although the licensed products do obviously cost more money. The reason you see a lot of MAN buses and no Scania or Mercedes-Benz licensed buses is at least because MAN is known for particularly giving their likeness away so long as it is not portrayed in a negative format, I've worked alongside a ...

Re: Op Shop Score.

I have the exact same model! Purchased new from (probably) Toyworld in c. 2010. As a kid I thought it was the bee’s knees.

The rigid to match it looks more like a MAN than a Merc, and I’ve always assumed the artic to be a MAN too. Same VöV Mk II front that Adelaide’s SG280H/SL202s had.

Re: July 2023 AdMet timetable changes

Not without precedent. For some time, the 190 timetable has included limited 195 and 196 trips. The 861 includes limited 863, 864, N864 and 865. These are more to do with bulking up the Go Zones I suspect, but it's similar. This might be the only non- Go Zone timetable to include a similar route. I...

Re: July 2023 AdMet timetable changes

My memory of the proposed New Network had the 528 running to a modified route :- from Muller Rd to Hampstead Rd and then following the 206 to Folland Ave. A potential solution to the quandry of the headway on Galway Ave may be to reroute the 208 and make it an extension of the W91. This would (usin...

The new 206 Go Zone was additional funding so all new services that aren't taking away from other routes. Scania L94UB 14.5s 3310 and 3311 have been retired from metro service, and will be transferred to Link SA for Monarto Zoo duties. This brings an end to “speedstripe” liveried buses in service in Adelaide, about 41 years after 1501 first appeared in Busway stripes in 1982. 3310’s last trip was the 06...

Timing point change - current timetable shows Bald Hills Road 71, new one has Bald Hills Road 72 (although the times themselves in this column do appear to be the same). Oh!
