Re: "River Rail Link" Kogarah to Parramatta
In the plan it talks about Kogarah being a ‘health and education precinct’, which is why it has a bigger dot in that map. Probably because of the big employers in Kogarah like St George Hospital and Westpac, rather than Hurstville being mostly retail and residential. Guess it is seen as a future emp...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020
Almost doubling the frequency of services should help reduce the crowding on the platform - a more even spread of incoming patronage, and a more frequent sweep of the platform for outgoing patronage.

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
I wouldn’t expect a plaza, I’d expect a single integrated station. Where Alexandria Avenue is would most likely be part of the concourse and station building, and given they say integrated station development is possible maybe even an over station building. It would be better to pedestrianise Railwa...

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
Sure. Chapter 7 of the EIS has some information on Westmead on page 7-4 and 7-5, showing the diversion of Alexandria Avenue to align with Grand Avenue and an integrated interchange precinct in figure 7-3. It also included the following text under the Westmead section: Facilitate an integrated transp...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The contract is online and allows increases in frequency, but it would be at a standard pre-agreed cost.
Presumably reallocating services when demand is low and money is tight is just the way they decided to go this time.

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
Nothing you say is wrong, as far as what the best case would be, but I don’t think the compromise that they have ended up with is so bad. For Westmead, from reading between the lines it appears there would be a common single level concourse at Hawkesbury Road street level. Presumably this would be t...

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
Almost everything lunchbox raises is addressed since the EIS. At Westmead there is no road to cross a road as Alexandra Ave is being relocated and the Metro and Sydney Trains stations will be integrated. Same at North Strathfield. The EIS also mentions Olympic Park being designed for event crowds.

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Removing the parallel car traffic on George should simplify the phasing to the point that they could run a double cycle of 45 seconds (only 2 phases - tram/peds on George, and cross traffic/peds). You would think that phasing that simple should be able to provide priority easily, with the cross traf...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020
EIS said a double ended island platform, 2 platforms for Sydney Trains, 2 for Metro. It may have moved on from that but it certainly won’t be less than 2 platforms each.

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Considering over 90% of trips I’m the CBD are by pedestrians, they can’t be described as the biggest problem. If anything everything else is causing problems for pedestrians. If light cycles were shorter it would benefit both light rail and pedestrians, and have a side effect of increasing complianc...

The Government has spent a lot to increase the accessibility on stations across the network with some...

Re: Ipart Opal Fare review 2020 to 2024
Expanding off peak fares is a good idea, you only need a couple of percent of people to be able to change their timing to make a difference to crowding. There are actually a surprising high number of non-work related trips during peak travel times. The only difference between Opal and Opal Connect i...

There is next to no chance of opal gates and at grade road crossing at Westmead or North Strathfield. The scoping report talks about an overhead transfer concourse and adjustment of existing platforms and track to accommodate.

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
It's unrealistic to suggest that T2 could be run at 20tph with a single stopping pattern as it currently exists. It would deny South Line commuters their semi-express and faster services through the inner suburbs, which they are entitled to as much as those on the Northern and Western Lines. As I m...

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
T5 needs to move to a 15 minute headway sooner rather than later. The fact that an extra T5 service starts the day after the T6 line closes shows how tight rolling stock is. Hopefully we see improvements when the 17 new B sets start arriving. I suspect that a 15 minute T5 service would boost patrona...

I've been waiting for you to regurgitate this furphy grog. Your proposition is predicated on the basis of more interchange being forced upon commuters from the Outer West and Richmond Lines to reach the CBD. I agree that there is the potential to increase services west of Parramatta, but there is l...

Re: Sydney Metro West announced
It’s definitely not true that you couldn’t add services west of Westmead and Parramatta. In fact you could double the current service level easily. You could run a full 40tph through a combination of extending and adding current Parramatta T2 services and adding and T5 services. T1 could be 20tph fa...

There are 2 separate ped crossings, one for the road and one for the trams. The tram ped lights are covered over still, with traffic controllers stopping pedestrians when trams come.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
You should expect mixed stopping patterns on the T2 to disappear by 2023 - simple T2 - T8 with no use of flying junctions is exactly what we will get.
