Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

Here is an extract from a current newspaper article - working laws will change: How your boss can change your salary, hours, role and even where you work under JobKeeper legislation... but you WILL be able to hang on to annual leave • Sweeping changes are due to be made to Australian working laws on...

Re: The MAN Bus with the roof mounted clearance structure

I wouldn't be surprised if the J1X was permanently withdrawn as the loadings are very poor. Then, as said, the CDI could be transferred to Mt Barker - unlikely though!!!

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

I take you point but employees are being stood down (some unfortunately retrenched) in all types of organisations where rosters and employment conditions would guarantee a certain number of hours per week etc. We are in very unusual times and no one can be expected to work their normal agreed hours,...

The MAN Bus with the roof mounted clearance structure

The noticed the MAN, normally based at Mile End, with metal structure attached to the roof areas to test clearances for the double deckers was traveling towards the city on Glen Osmond Road yesterday - I wonder if any additional routes are being planned for the deckers? The Bustech CDI is totally wa...

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

Using the argument for running the virtually a normal timetable for social distancing is rubbish as the loadings are so low, that running half services would still provide adequate distancing between the few passengers. And running empty buses just to keep the drivers employed is also rubbish. Shoul...

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

I went for a necessary visit to the supermarket this morning and, again, it is frustrating to see the numbers of buses traveling up and down Glen Osmond Road, empty of nearly empty. I do accept that schedules have to retain the spread of hours, but why not half the numbers of runs/schedules - so tha...

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

I should add a clarifying note regarding bus registrations and that is from a State finance aspect, cancelling registrations will no effect, but cancelling both third party bodily injury and comprehensive insurances would save money, but that is dependent upon their insurance arrangements. But the r...

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

If the services are cut, operating or variable costs can be reduced - maintenance costs, fuel/oil and hopefully labour costs. Generally fixed costs will remain - finance/leasing, depot and maybe admin. Registration and insurance, which are also fixed costs, could be reduced if vehicles are formally ...

Re: Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

All the various and expected excuses as to why the services could not be drastically reduced have been made, but they have all been heard before and quite frankly they are pathetic. In the meantime buses travel around Adelaide often empty - this is not the way to do things. And, if you think I am sp...

Adelaide Metro. Empty Buses Everywhere!

All I see, during my essential outings from home, are empty or nearly empty buses and trains traveling along. Surely it is well time that the whole train, tram and bus system is heavily pruned. A truly skeleton operation at this time would save unnecessary costs, at a time when state funds are neede...

Lothian/Edinbugh Atlantean/Alexander 1966

I must say that I may have missed an earlier post regarding this, but Pickles are advertising this bus and they do say that it has mechanical issues. It looks good, is in the full Lothian/Edinburgh livery and would be a great bus to preserve - any ideas/comments???

P1080016.jpg In New York the majority of Cabs now are ubiquitous (boring, but efficient) Toyota Camrys, with a few Toyota Klugers and Prius's and a few Ford Transits (not the same as our big UK Transit vans here). Here's HD video of New York from 1993 showing some quality footage of cabs in the str...

Re: Was The Atlantean Sydney's Routemaster?

More a "Borismaster" than a Routemaster ?? But I wouldn't call it an icon. The CDI is certainly not an icon, but I do think they are a better bus to travel in than the Borismaster, which feels quite cramped inside, particularly downstairs and the lack of decent air-conditioning makes them unpleasan...

Re: Was The Atlantean Sydney's Routemaster?

Overseas visitors to Sydney what to see the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House, probably experience the Harbour on a Manly Ferry and perhaps visit Bondi Beach. So, as Tonyp has mentioned, I think the Manly Ferry would be Sydney's only transport icon! In London the old Routemaster and perhaps the RT wer...

Re: Was The Atlantean Sydney's Routemaster?

As an old Pom, I found it difficult to like the Sydney Atlanteans. They possessed a low capacity (66 seats vs UK ones up to 78 seats) rather basic, but tough body and being the pre-AN68 version, they were quite unreliable. I guess the low capacity was a result of the usual axle weight restrictions h...

Re: Airport Link (Sydney's Airport Train)

Pity you didn't ride the metro Tim. It has platform doors. In fact the new underground station platforms are completely enclosed and you're not even exposed to the atmosphere of the tunnels. Platform doors will also be fitted to the curved platforms of the Bankstown line metro conversion. I'm sure ...
