I looked at both sites (Creative & Transitgraphics) & no news. Transit graphics publish a newsletter ...

This is obviously an ex Standerwick (Ribble) Gay Hostess that would have long distance (by UK standards) from London to the North via the M1. These Atlantean coaches, as they were, were toilet and "hostess" equipped (the term "gay" had the tradional meaning!!) They were a great sight storming down t...

Graebers Leyland Lion

Graebers used to operate from Lobethal (in the Adelaide Hills) to Adelaide. They did have interesting buses from time to time - ands this one certainly is. it is a Lion (which I am sure most know has the Atlantean power-pack etc up the back, combined which the rest of the chassis taken from the Worl...

I have found a rather poor photo of 7000, taken the same time at the rear photo, shown above, but it does clearly show that the front was modified, presumably during the brown repaint, to resemble the Hills B58's.

This mod was something I just didn't recall.

I will have a go at posting tonight.

Yes 260 was a Mercedes but not an 0305 and it like the Deutz no. 250, had AEC Swift style bodies, but with shallower lantern windscreen layout.

I also have a photo of the prototype O-Bahn artic, which had only two doors - same layout as the brown B58/B10M artics. Perhaps someone else knows if it operated in service with only 2 doors. Somewhere, I also have colour slides of the Akarus Artic in service on the then 490 to Elizabeth and the MAN...

The Briscoes Artic Coach came to grief on one of those low railway bridges off Flinders Street in Melbourne whilst on a tour/charter. No one fortunately was injured, but the coach was seriously damaged, with both airconditioners forced down into the roof areas creating structural damage, to the exte...

I know that I have enquired about this before, but if anyone would provide a "how to post photos" on the forum in non-technical speak, I could post all sorts of treasures including some really great black & whites by Neil Mackintosh taken in the 60's mainly in Adelaide, but also a few NSW shots. I a...

Yes I would be most interested.

I travel with my job quite alot, I fly back to Adl Friday night, and time permitting I will look through my old bus stuff over the weekend as my fleet lists etc. should provide reasonable detail over all Lewis buses.

The so called "aerodynamic device" was actually the air intake for the re-located rear engine. John Lewis liked AEC's as well as Leylands, but he (like many other operators) did not have a good run with the AEC 505 horizonal engine - they were prone to over-heating and then breaking the head gasket....

Lewis had only one such semi-trailer coach/bus - the unit was one of three, I think, built for the Department of Supply and operated by them at Woomera. The Volvo PM simply replaced the Bedford TK and was operated by a contractor - Rod Lewis ( from Karoonda near Murray bridge, is no relation to the ...

Amongst my "old bus stuff" boxes would be various Lewis Bros fleet lists + colour slides of all buses throughout the late 60's + 70's and on. No it was not a Leopard, it was amazingly enough a Leyland Hippo truck chassis (second hand - probably ex wreckers), heavily modified by Lewis Bros in their Provident Avenue workshops at Glynde in Adelaide. The trailer chassis was new and both bodies were also built by Lewis - the trailer was for fr...
