Re: Airport Link (Sydney's Airport Train)

Interesting point regarding straight platforms and hence planning for that from start would be essential. Some of those London platforms are both very curved and are narrow. There is a very attractive, but highly curved station on the New York Subway called City Hall, it is not used, but is preserve...

Re: Airport Link (Sydney's Airport Train)

Thanks for the responses and no!Tonyp, Adelaide does not have to worry about luggage going upstairs on the Airport Express Bustech CDI with average load factors that were quoted as 4 per journey, a couple of years ago. I think that DD would be better utilised if it were based at Aldgate or Mount Bar...

3401 (Scania/Gemilang)

Yes, 3401 is back in service and has a heavy duty looking windscreen guard cover the entire top front screen - whilst it looks a bit unsightly, I am sure it is necessary, noting the number windscreens broken to date!

Re: Left Hand Drive (fully) Low Floor Bus

I have inadvertently started my Sydney Trains/Airport Link topic in the Adelaide/SA section and I have asked how it can be moved. However, even where it is, I would be interested in your response Tonyp!!

Airport Link (Sydney's Airport Train)

I visited Sydney, a couple of weekends ago with my wife and as we were staying at the Rocks, we decided to catch the train from the airport directly to Circular Quay (no changing of trains) and then a short walk to the hotel. Whilst I do appreciate that the service continues through to Macarthur (as...

Re: Left Hand Drive (fully) Low Floor Bus

I probably should add that I have been married for many, many years and when we were younger, I used to drag my wife around to all sorts seedy places, where bus stations often exist. For example, the Greyhound terminal in Los Angeles (in the 1970's) was in a shocking part of that city and it was dus...

Re: Left Hand Drive (fully) Low Floor Bus

Would have been an interesting trip. I mentioned Helsinki before and Tonyp mentioned that he doubted their buses are full low floor and he was correct. Even the 3 door buses are only low entrance and there are naturally quite a number of steps to negotiate at the rear door - I will try and dig up a ...

Left Hand Drive (fully) Low Floor Bus

usc_story2_hero1_1200x675 (2).jpg The USC Morton Bay is trying to tempt students to enroll there offering a more cost effective and less stressful study time at the university. Local transport is part of the deal. There was an advertorial article in Adelaide now today with this photo of the bus tra...

Re: Murton's Broken Hill

The laid back is still alive and well in the bush - I must put together a more serious posting about double decker trains in Sydney (I was there a couple of weeks ago) and their unsuitability for the Airport Express!

Re: Murton's Broken Hill

A question for Tim. Did the Menindee and Wilcannia services carry enough pax to justify full size buses. What was the average patronage like. I suspect not as you used Rosas on them. The Rosas were only intended as an interim measure and there were inadequate in two areas, no wheelchair lifts and la...

Re: Murton's Broken Hill

Some of the rebranding would have already taken place as 4 x new buses are now in service - 2 for the Town Service and 1 each for Menindee and Wilcannia services. Will try and get details and maybe photos.

Re: Various electric buses at TSA.

I am not sure if it applies to these current (high tech) batteries, but Toyota Industrial put a lot of research into fast charging of electric fork lift trucks to try and eliminate detrimental effect it had on the batteries. The best method of recharging, to preserve battery integrity was a slow ove...

Re: Various electric buses at TSA.

Great response Tony, thanks! The article in "Buses" does show in photos and talks about battery placement on Enviro 400EV, with most batteries stacked at the back (behind the rear axle) with a few others placed under the staircase, behind the floor. All looks to be a good use of space and a neat ins...

Re: Various electric buses at TSA.

When it comes to discussion about electric buses and probably other technical matters you blokes really get bogged down in the minutiae of the chosen subject, but perhaps it is of more interest and more beneficial looking at the bigger picture of current technical developments etc. For example the B...

Re: Scania K320UD double decker and Hino Double decker

Not sure about 1790 (Bustech CDI), but I haven't seen it on the road (Airport Run) and when it is not running, it has always been visible from Richmond Road, at the Mile End Depot - now it seems to have disappeared!! My understanding of 3401 (Scania/Gemilang) is that it has had or is still having so...

High Floor/Low Floor Trams

P1020396.jpg I remember reading (in one of my many books on transport) that consideration was given to insert a low floor section within the B2 trams, but the idea was not proceeded with - which is a great shame as the the B2's are a very useful high capacity (high seating capacity, that is) tram. ...

I notice that there are now 30 of these in service - all with Torrens?? How many, in total, are on order and are any planned top go to Southlink? Re: Double Decker Buses in New Zealand

Thanks again for the update - what an amazing number, New Zealand, particularly Auckland has really embraced double deckers in a big ways!

It's a great shame that the pace of the introduction of DD's into service in Australia is so slow - only Sydney and SkyBus Melbourne.
