Re: How to open my volvo B58 doors from the outside

Oh and opening the door, I'm guessing that there is only an inside switch so drain the air tanks or use brute strength.

Re: How to open my volvo B58 doors from the outside

The engine in a B58 would be a THD 100D if memory serves me right, 242 horsepower and horizontal of course. As for the type of rear axle, have a look on the diff centre and somewhere on it you will find a dataplate. Please message me all of those numbers?

I saw so many of those Hyliners in the factory when they were being framed up, I worked on the Westbus one and the Saintys' one when they were new to Westbus years ago. Great times!

Re: VOLVO 1984 B6FA INFORMATION........

Hi Allan. It looks like you might have a misprint here quite possibly, I'm estimating that you actually have 10.00R20 tyres or maybe even 9.00R20 items to be more precise. If they are 10.00s, moving to 11R22.5 won't do anything more but simply give you cooler running tubeless tyres instead of runnin...

Re: Clipper Tours:a look back at their history.

I remember that 'decker being in at Suttons Arncliffe for a second engine rebuild, it was listed on the whiteboard as a boat anchor. To be honest I would have loved to get into that two axle twin deck, it would have been good to drive.

If the engine is in good condition and you treat it with respect then it will give you good service, granted that they aren't exactly powerhouses but they are reliable.

Re: ZF 6 speed Transmission Question

If you people are topping up cooling systems with plain water then I will say as a mechanic that you ought to be shot, you will quite simply dilute the actual inhibitor/antifreeze level and then the whole system will slowly perish. If the coolant is getting into the inside of a 6 speed auto then you...

This is so cool! I used to catch both of those Merlins and even the Bedford in the top shot as a kid in my school days, beautiful sstuff and thank you. I even remember seeing the VK55s from Dick Rowes' fleet in Mt Druitt too back in those days, the Clydesdales too but I honestly missed out on the Le...

An interesting footnote to this thread as well, 7362 was the first chassis into the fleet that was fitted with a ZF automatic. I used to work on it.

Re: Desto Time 30 - Bosnjaks Penrith

From 7362 as noted on the roll, I thought it would be interesting to put up given Westbus are moving out. Rugby Street must be a busy place. And I wonder if "CITY" was from back in the day when train strikes were frequent and local operators ran replacement services for commuters? If anyo...

Re: '79 merc 0305..L.H. side of steering column is a 2" elec

The bang in conjunction with gearchanges could be that the transmission is shifting too harshly thus sending a shock load through the driveline, the rear axle could be at fault as well but my experience would more so suggest the shifting issue with the transmission.

Are you talking about winding off the booster so that the linkage can be hooked up again or something else? Please send me a private message and I'll reply.

Re: ZF GEAR BOX IN B10

One of the problems that can occur is quite simply a wire that breaks somewhere in the loom, you need to make sure that all of the inputs and outputs to the control box, selector panel and to the transmission itself are all getting the signals/commands that they should be. Another fault could be the...

Re: Once upon a time......some RFW coaches

Were most GM powered? The Wollongong Coaches ones were 903 Cummins and weren't they mean! A 903 V8 Cummins, that's a lot of horsepower in a bus or coach. Not really mate, they were lucky to make 320 horses with a turbo. When you see coaches today with 500 hp in the back end it's a little bi...

Re: Friday Flashback: Toongabbie Transport (Maurie Griffin)

I worked on quite a few of these buses after Westbus took over, I loved the GMs like you wouldn't believe. Helmut was going to give me an apprenticeship too, he had to say no as the bus pass rules changed at the start of 1986 and as a result he took three buses off the road because of it.

The internals of those hubs are the same size but the differences externally are because of the variations in rims apart from the end caps. You'll notice that the fire engine has 10 studs but the flicker photos have spider hubs, that why it seems so different even though mechanically/physically the ...

Just a couple of minor bits and pieces here, it's a 'Benz 2435 with an OM442A engine and I hate to say it but you won't see any "Benzes with bigger hubs that those ones. Those hubs are actually the same size as what you'll find on a 0405 to be honest. Six of them were put into service and they ...
