Re: Headway Services

OK 160X is a headway service if I'm reading it correctly. This is at its Chatswood terminus.

Strangely Route 120 doesn't seem to carry that special badge of honour.

Re: The New Tram/Light Rail Line

In fact I was using the L2 line yesterday. The CBD section was gangbusters, whilst the section to Randwick wasn't full, but did have healthy patronage. So definitely not a failure from any point of view.

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021

But that does not guarantee a third platform at Cheltenham. I think you mean Beecroft as Cheltenham already has a third platform which was built as part of the third track project, as was Pennant Hills, although not used for normal suburban services at present. The problem with Beecroft is that the...

Re: New Intercity Fleet Purchases/Observation

Japan still run its train with driver and guard operations, both on underground metro and long distance services. I don't think Japan is union orientated. They need more people working on platforms too to push people right into the carriage. Totally different operations, and it probably warrants su...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021

Just as well they provided a new platform facing at Pennant Hills as part of the 3rd track project. Similarly at Cheltenham, but not Beecroft. Most likely Thornleigh and Normanhurst will receive similar treatment with the extension of the 3rd track to Hornsby.
If it ever goes ahead...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations

In fact, I was on an off peak service where doors closed immediately as soon as all passengers alighted, resulting in just 5-10 seconds dwell time. The train was not late. So the doors closed before passengers got on? Here's the dilemma: if the train is scheduled for departure at 16:18 (published t...

Re: STA Observations 2021

They are R6 operated services, so they don't get onto the R9 maps. TfNSW seems incapable of budging on this issue. The new Region 7/8 maps seem to have routes like 270X etc appear. Just a matter of time. Also note that the Region 9 map is a STA map, not a TfNSW map. Similar to the R6 map, it's a Tr...

Future Transport 2056 (2036 refresh)

https://future.transport.nsw.gov.au/future-transport-strategy/greater-sydney-network/greater-sydney-network-refinement Kinda interesting to see this refresh, but it also seems it was developed potentially in isolation and just represents fantasy lines on a map. Transport for NSW does admit that thes...

Parramatta and Leppington services will become semi-express, and there will be 4tph from Ashfield or Homebush perhaps?
Semi express = skips Croydon and Macdonaldtown  There's no more room for this unless headways are reduced from 3 to 2 min (20 trains/hr --> 30 trains/hr)....

I can comment that the platforms at High St and Moore Park had an absolute sea of pax spread out along the length the of the entire platform.
