Yep, that is the real world. Would you rather they pull all the trains out when it happens?

Re: Timetable Changes 2024,
A mix of 4 and 8 continues to run on Cumberland line. There isn’t the demand outside maybe two or three peak-hour trains to reintroduce older sets back into daily network use whilst a number of projects are ongoing. The ones with 8s are used on the Western and North Shore during peak periods.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Yes it will, any trains terminating and running into sidings, turnbacks or yard/sheds must be emptied. No carry over of passengers. This will take at least 3 minutes for either train crew or customer service attendants to go and check. Look in the morning peak of platform 22 at central when trains ...

Transit Systems NSW’s 5238 shows in the Fleet Lists as in White livery. It is still in the Metrobus livery.

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
Don’t think it would happen, as it would cut out the outlets, but theoretically if they did that, they could also charge a fee for the card to reduce wastage.

Re: Timetable Changes 2024,
The Ashfields aren’t technically axed as the paths are used by additional services from Liverpool. As times and stops in the Inner West have been reallocated to account for the Liverpool services, people will need to check timetables.

Re: Rail Observations 2024
Franchising will never occur as this would involve the private sector bearing the revenue risk, which it won't do in a loss making industry. Contracting out service provision wouldn't get the government off the hook from having to pay for maintenance, nor would it avoid industrial action. Not inher...

Revised timetable for bus or rail? Both. […] In another thread, Stu mentioned there will also be revised timetables for Region 6. The new rail timetable is still six weeks away. As for bussing, we know general routes are ‘usually’ released two weeks ahead, while bus replacement timetables aren’t al...

Running through into the city would require more buses and drivers. The Metro is now also available from Sydenham, why clog roads any further than they have to.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Have to agree, the Metro has shown up the heavy network as slow and outdated, that comes from personal experience. This will extend to upcoming industrial action which will show it up as another beacon for Sydney’s future.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Some North Shore line services are looking like ghost trains after Metro opening, curious to see how far they'd be willing to cut services. Perhaps they might have off-peak Lindfield services cut back to North Sydney, and Gordon services terminating at Lindfield instead? There is a minimal reductio...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
It has been disclosed that one of the main considerations in selecting the Bankstown Line […] That doesn't mean it was the best option, being one of the least patronised lines. That makes it the perfect option actually. The corridor will become highly density over the coming decades, and with that ...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Excluding the power issue this afternoon at Hills Showgrounds, where people were only stuck for circa 30 minutes, it has been a great week for the Metro. May it run as reliably for the next few centuries!

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
They could have been smart and provided fee-free/half-fare/reduced rate travel to reflect the economic reality of limited provision until the full service timetable begins operation and the partial service timetable is phased out. Oh that's a limitation of the smartcard system, ironically enough, b...
