Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Going back to my original question....why weren't L1/L2 routed through the Concourse ? Would it create traffic nightmares, not feasible on the Concourse itself ….or just all too hard ??

Re: Light rail gets the green light: stage 1 UNSW to CBD
Thanks Marknut1996. As someone who used the "old" tram network in the 50's, I would have thought that the Concourse would have been a good interchange point for all concerned, keeping everyone out of the weather, very convenient and a lot less confusion !.

Hi all...maybe a silly question, however will (or)can L2 and L3 use the Central concourse to enable interchange with the L1 ?

Thanks Red and Cream...your explanation sounds very plausible. Of an evening they would normally run a 274 back to the depot via Forsyth and High Sts.

Re: DGT buses in the 50's and 60's.
That's correct Boronia. They turned left just after that point into Penkivel St. then right into Penshurst St. before terminating at the corner of Penshurst St and Mowbray Rd.

Yes, that now makes sense Boronia. Another question, why is the 271 running 'Special' at this point when they normally turned left into Penkivel St., just north of the photo, then right into Penshurst St. to finish their run.

Re: DGT buses in the 50's and 60's.
Confused by the photo of TD5 1645 in Willoughby Rd,Willoughby with the Foden behind it. The photo appears to show the tram lines turning right into Mowbray Rd, however I thought they went left into Mowbray then right into Penshurst St. Any thoughts ?
P.S. _ fantastic photo's Red & Cream !

Re: Archie Moore,South Hurstville.
Hi Burrumbus Love to see the results of your 'exercise'. I lived on Rt.116 from 1951 onwards and have vivid recollections of the buses used on that run in those days, however nothing documented unfortunately. Also lots of early memories of the Mimosa St. Depot as I had an Uncle live nearby and spent...

Re: Rare and interesting car sightings
Yes...some came in from U.K., usually pretty rusty from the salt on their roads. Always very popular here on the Gold Coast with all the " would be if they could be's " wanting to be seen in one ! Looked good but heaps cheaper than any Merc that was Australian delivered. Still a lot up here even now.

Don't think the 450SLC was ever sold new in Australia, so probably a Jap import.

Pye's Coaches in Gosford also had a paraplegic bus in the 80's, built on a Mitsubishi chassis.

Re: Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast
A fleet of Double Deckers would probably be ideal for the task, however I guess that it would have required huge amounts of tree pruning all over the Gold Coast to be able to use them.

Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast
Interstate and Intrastate buses have begun arriving on the Gold Coast to help out with the Commonwealth Games. Does anyone know where all these extra buses will be 'housed' during their stay ?
