Re: *Opal Card INFRASTRUCTURE roll-out progress ONLY*
After my last post I took a cruise through the Opal site. My conclusion is the fare evasion will be endemic on buses if I understand it correctly. If the punters have to present their cards to get off the bus what happens if they don't present?

Re: *Opal Card INFRASTRUCTURE roll-out progress ONLY*
Had 2330 out last week and noticed it has been fitted with the readers (?) at the exits and a new mount for the Opal console. I couldn't see any cables or troughing running from the small readers so how do they work?

I particularly like that last shot. Nice result. I'm curious to know what you think of Volgren Volvo artics like 2258 Greame? They are abit slow off the mark but I love the sound of their big turbo engines as they take off. Not everyone seems to like the looks of the Volgren but I for one am a fan!...

Re: STA redistribution of routes at depots
If they want to save dead running, what about all those North Sydney buses running up to Brookvale for servicing? Quicker to do it at Willoughby?? The only problem with your proposition is the fact that Willoughby now has a stock roughly double what it had when North Sydney's fleet was serviced the...

Re: STA redistribution of routes at depots
 Every new driver starting with STA had to learn that many. Anyone who transfers or is loaned out does as well. No jobs are threatened by this, and in reducing costs it may help us not to be privatised. Why is anyone upset by this ? We lose nothing, unlike the current EBA, where we were told ...

Re: STA redistribution of routes at depots
As for the standards of route training - its not very long ago that I showed a new P operator how to get a 310 from Eastgardens to Botany Rd And what about the sizable number of drivers at T that have never collected a cash fare? Do they receive any training on collecting fares and use of the coin ...

Re: STA redistribution of routes at depots
I hear Y are getting M's 14.5. I hear mostly for 520s. This allows M to receive Artics from T. M drivers have been Artic training at Y. Which contradicts route548's post. :? 520 operates late night/ early morning and doesn't warrant being tabled for 14.5s even if they could make the turn from Rydal...

Re: $100 million over 4 years to improve daily commute in Sy
Eastwood interchange is a complete mess. There has been various meetings and posturings between Ryde council and the various transport operators over the last ten years but nothing has been done. As mentioned above, the service level for buses through the Western side of the station has reached over...

I'm so used to the CB80 body on the B7 chassis the Volgren looks positively ponderous. I'm curious as to the
weight difference between the two?

Ken Butt had a few features on his later buses in addition to the extra side indicators. Most of the Volvos and Leyland's I drove were fitted with a foot switch to operate the ticket/door light, a feature that made night operation just that little bit easier. The shot of 4118 in AOA outside the long...

Definitely think we will have to start a sch...

Yes Tony I think the article you may be referring to was titled "Surrounded on all sides but pressing on". How ironic as I had only sat down to read this article after finding it ( a scanned copy) with lunch before packing it away in storage whilst I move. I worked casual for Ken back in the early 9...

Re: Mercedes Monster Ladder Fire Truck in Action.
The internals of those hubs are the same size but the differences externally are because of the variations in rims apart from the end caps. You'll notice that the fire engine has 10 studs but the flicker photos have spider hubs, that why it seems so different even though mechanically/physically the...

Seems a lot of people paid big money for the 2 or 3 night "cruise" from Circular Quay to Athol Bight. The old Fairstar did weekend cruises during her last few years. Basically she loaded with loaded youth and gamblers, steamed strait out through the heads Friday night till the coast was out of view...

 HOW DARE YOU!!!! AEC Decker only wanted to discreetly advertise that his XP Falcon coupe had a V8 under the bonnet, but not a 426ci Hemi. If Chrysler had sold the 426 Hemi in an Australian production car, say a rebadged Plymouth Barracuda, Ford could've kissed its supremacy goodby ...

Re: Trip to Inverell Transport Museum
AEC Decker may wish to comment on the obscene view of 2509's road numbers above the rear platform. How can AEC Decker bear to have this bus displayed with numbers that aren't aligned in a less than adequate state? The rear view of 1569 has reminded me of how unique yet ridiculously unreliable those ...
