Re: Railway Observations for 2022.
It only took 6 years, but the indicator board for 'the next train does not stop' has finally been updated so you can actually see the services after the not stopping train. It used to take up the whole screen so you couldn't see when the next service would be arriving.

Re: Railway Observations for 2022.
The train before that was also running late and had altered stopping pattern as well, stopping at all the other stops - North Sydney then St Leonards, Chatswood, Lindfield and terminating at Gordon.
So basically 2 trains alternating stops, still very weird though

Re: Railway Observations for 2022.
T1 trackwork on weeknights this week leading to some weird stopping patterns for trains that usually terminate at Gordon or Lindfield instead heading up to Hornsby to stable. 9.05pm Central to Gordon service extends to Hornsby, stopping Pymble, Turramurra, Warrawee, and then Hornsby. 9.32pm Central ...

Re: Railway Observations for 2022.
Trackwork on the T1 north shore line this weekend was initially planned for Berowra-Gordon but was extended to North Sydney for most of Saturday until around 8-9pm due to the recent events in order to inspect the track. It looks like the speed restrictions on the T1 have now been lifted. Also spotte...

Re: Railway Observations for 2022.
Something different - this weekend, a couple of BMT services were timetabled to go around the city circle stopping all stations as platforms 9-12 at Central were unavailable for use. Real time apps listed these trains as 8V which I would have been curious to see but unfortunately it was only a 4V (o...

Try the RTBU diary for this month which shows it going well beyond next Tuesday up to the following Tuesday 21st. https://www.ourrightsourfight.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/December-2021-ver2.pdf That explains the recent 'trains unable to leave the depot' cancellations - the 6 day ban on clean...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
A lot of trains on the T1/T9 being cancelled last night and this morning "due to trains being unable to leave the depot". Anyone know what that's all about? Did they store too many sets at Flemington during the Lidcombe - Strathfield trackwork weekend combined with the Hornsby - Gosford sh...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
As I understood the thought was RPOs would take you at your word that you had tapped on, but when everything synced at the end of the night, if no journey had been recorded on that card, then they would issue a fine. One of the reasons (along with immediate fare feedback which helps you catch any i...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
Today, my opal card was checked twice by transport officers. I use my phone (google pay) for public transport now and this was the first time my card has been checked since I started using my phone instead of a physical opal card. Both times, the transport officers' devices was unable to recognise m...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Looking at trip planner and tripview, all trains are scheduled to skip all stations within the Sydney CBD apart from Central between 9am and 2pm today (Saturday) (i.e Wynyard, Town Hall, Circular Quay, St James, Museum, Redfern and Martin Place). I could not find any further information on this so I...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
A 'Paid Zone' sticker was painted onto the ground at the entrances to Asquith and Mt Colah stations a few weeks ago where the 'tap on tap off' sticker used to be. However, this only lasted for a few days before it was removed. Maybe they realised that the ticket machines were inside the paid zone ar...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
I assume you are referring to last year's change as there is no such change this year Yes, the change last June-July to extend peak hours - however, most office workers were working from home then. It did not affect me until February this year though as that was when I had to return to the office 3...

Re: Opal Discussion and Observations
The off-peak timing change alone has increased my fares by $9 a week and I'm only in the office 3 days a week currently. If I had to go back to the office 5 days a week, that's a $14 per week increase ($32 to $46 a week based on the 20-35km fare). I get the yearly CPI increases every year, that part...

9.48pm Central to Newcastle service was delayed for over an hour this evening due to track equipment repairs at Thornleigh on the 3rd track. It eventually backtracked to Pennant Hills for passengers to change over to the 10.48pm service that was held at Pennant Hills for around 15 min to facilitate ...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Strange CCN timetabling this weekend, with CCN trains running via the North Shore and continuing to Olympic Park even though there is no trackwork on the T9 northern line. Stopping pattern Hornsby, Gordon, Chatswood and all stations to Central, Redfern, Strathfield and Olympic Park. Presumably done ...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2021
Real time apps had an updated CCN timetable for today, many peak hour trains were listed as 4 car sets - departing Central at 4.05pm, 4.14pm via Shore, 4.20pm, 4.50pm, 5.04pm, 5.13pm via Shore, 6.20pm and similarly for this morning's AM peak. I assume it will be similar tomorrow and until the line p...

Re: T3 from 2024
They may be timetabled to connect, but much like the Metro at Chatswood, will operate independently, so one won't be held if the other is running late. We'll have to wait and see, but I wouldn't be so sure about 'connections' any more. Timetables aren't made to benefit passengers these days - you j...

Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020
I know B-sets have been operating on the T1 and T9 as replacements at times, but this weekend there is a B set that's scheduled to do T1/T9 runs. Re: NSW Railway Observations 2020
For citybound trains, another issue to consider is timetabling rather than seating. Most weekday off-peak citybound CCN trains depart Epping 3 min after the suburban train and overtakes it between Epping and West Ryde. Adding Eastwood as a stop for the CCN train would delay the suburban train by ano...
