Re: Use of Back Door on Buses
I'd say at a guess that each state branch operates in its own bubble and has no idea of what goes on in other states in respect of bus operation. Except that ACTION drivers also come under the NSW state branch. (Also ACTION have just under half the fleet with rear door cameras.) If TWU want to asse...

Re: Use of Back Door on Buses
I had a look at the media release to see *why* rear door boarding is "incredibly dangerous". Not surprisingly, there was no extra information. Having TWU NSW say this is at odds with the practice of rear door boarding which is occurring in ACT (whose drivers belong to the same union). If they want t...

The Yutong (now known as BUS 490) has seen some limited use in the past few days. Presumably not many drivers have been trained yet.

Re: Electric bus trial
"Leased", not borrowed, with the option to purchase. Canberra already runs CNG buses - since 2004. The ACT Government is aiming for zero emissions, so new CNG buses will definitely not be purchased. The last bus tender (RfEOI, but close enough) called for low emissions buses; minimum range requireme...

Re: Transport Canberra
The "slump in boardings" is comparing the MyWay-free four weeks to the normal fare weeks, not a before and after new network comparison. As the article states, bus patronage does normally drop away in June and July, so the decrease is not as dramatic as it appears. As for boardings vs journeys, this...

Re: Torrens Transit Helping out in ACT
So any more news about this? When can we expect to see these buses in Canberra? Plenty of Torrens Transit (and Swan Transit) drivers went to Sydney about a year ago to help in the takeover of the contract area from Sydney Buses and all had applied for and got NSW driver accreditation/authority (or w...

Re: Torrens Transit Helping out in ACT
It doesn't need to be Transit Systems - Canberra Metro can hold the accreditation. (Which is not to say they don't already; the latest list published is dated Dec 2018.) In any case, it is a requirement that to operate a bus service which picks up passengers in the ACT, you must be accredited. (Canb...

Re: Torrens Transit Helping out in ACT
Do SA drivers have photographic drivers authorities?
How many buses?
Where will they be stored and serviced?
And, most importantly, does Transit Systems hold an ACT Regular Route accreditation? (Hint: no.)

Re: Canberra light rail: Development applications approved i
Not that simple. Bus routes and timetables are being massively restructured. New suburbs are being serviced and many bus stops closed. I'm also not sure how this can be done legally. ACT requires bus operators to be accredited and drivers to have Driver Authorities. Transit Systems is not accredited...

Re: Old and High floor ACTION buses still in service
What I said before: anywhere, anytime.
During weekdays, only routes 3, 11/11A and 81 are always low floor.
A timetable app (such as "Canberra Bus"), or the website, will show which services are and are not low floor.

Re: Old and High floor ACTION buses still in service
There will be plenty in service for a while yet. Although none of these will be out on weekends. The Darts run only on the free City Loop, so no problem finding one of those. As for the others, they can be found anywhere at any time. (BTW, it's PR100.2 and PR100.3. These are not "marks" of the same ...

Re: Network 2018 to include 9 rapid routes
1. The minimum standard for a "Rapid" is 15 mins during the day and 30 min at night. 2. I'll take that as a comment. 3. Impossible to know. Although I'm not sure whether there are any busy suburban services which don't already have 30 min frequencies. Rapids to Queanbeyan can't happen since it's not...

Re: Realtime apps
With all apps, a timetable update needs to be prepared by the developer based on a new GTFS file. Manual or automatic updates only decide when the update is applied. Don't expect any updates from Transit Times - the developer has moved on to other apps. You could try using Tripmate, which is not as ...

Re: Bus driver assignments to vehicles
Depends on how many years back you're talking, but I doubt they would ever have enough buses to simply leave some in the yard. What happens at ACTION currently is each shift is allocated a bus type (low floor, articulated, Steer Tag) and drivers will be allocated a bus accordingly. Usually low floor...

Re: Desto board Alcatel Renault pr180.2
Yes, Kangaroos should be one of the special event destos. In the days before GWS, North Melbourne played a few games at Manuka Oval. There is a code to display a blank screen, but the simplest way is to just press enter and then not enter any code - that will blank out the displays. If, however, you...

That's not a chassis number, although ZIB 233 was 101138.
I assume you don't have any rego papers that included a chassis number? Or any former number plate details?

Agreed it's an AEC Swift. Looks to be the Smithfield body so build date 1974 or 1975. Only 20 of these were built.
Body or chassis number can narrow down the exact bus.

Re: Driver burned to death in his bus
While making people more aware of the emergency buttons sounds like a good idea, you still need to consider the consequences. A few years ago, when I legally pulled out of a bus stop, an asshat in a Mercedes (car) was so incensed at having to slow down for a bus, he decided to let me know about it b...
