Perhaps Clover could let off a few less fire-crackers this year and raise the $20K that way ??

NEW SYDNEY TRAMS -DESTINATION SIGNS

When in recent years, the white on black electronic destinations signs appeared on Sydney buses, I thought, what a dramatic improvement. I remember also the Government Department had sought the assistance of the association representing those with sight challenges, and that association and its membe...

Re: Valentia St

Used to travel on Rte 234, for work 1961-1963, alighting at Figtree. Don't remember seeing the desto 'VALENCIA ST VIA RYDE RD', usually 'VALENCIA ST WHF' or 'WOOLWICH FERRY ' on display. I do remember sighting back in the 1950's the sign " CIRCULAR QUAY VIA VALENCIA ST WHF", perhaps indicating that ...

Re: SYDNEY UNDERFLOOR SINGLE DECKERS IN THE 50'

Thanks Boronia and Fleetlists.

I note that at one stage it was at the STM, where I saw it , not knowing that it was that bus I'd seen all those years ago. Wow!!....[and it still has the chrome strips ].

SYDNEY UNDERFLOOR SINGLE DECKERS IN THE 50'

As a child in the late 1940's, early 1950's, I visited the Sydney CBD many times. I seem to remember seeing a single decker [or deckerS ] in the CBD, clad in the standard livery of green and cream, but with chrome strips under the side windows. The bus[es] also had a rear destination box in use abov...

Re: Passing of Vic Hayes

With regards to the item by Boronia about the bus Vic Hayes had obtained from a Private School in Waverley, I'm wondering if it was the Dodge [one of 2 old timers in use by Waverley College], to take students to and from their homes in the Eastern suburbs. At the time I remember seeing these vehicle...

Re: DGT Leylands to Canberra

I remember as a kid in the early to mid 1950's there was a problem with the axles on AEC DDs..cracked I think. I lived at the time in Oberon St Coogee on Rte 399 MARTIN PLACE [ which then with the commencement of railwork under that location and a weight limit being applied for road vehicles,] chang...

Re: Westbus Parramatta Bus Company derelict bus Rego Number

Has Westbus [Hillsbus ] still got MO 200 in their possession. Remember it around in the Bosnjak / Westbus era when the only Route No allocated to all services seemingly was 200.

Re: BY TRAM TO RANDWICK..Questions

Indeed they could Bedford 29. Maybe hopefully next stage, with a Passenger Waiting Area next to Carrington Rd, and the trams terminating just beyond Dudley St on dual trackage complete with 2 crossovers. As a kid traveling on the WAVERLEY DEPOT [nee BONDI JUNCTION line ], usually on the 7.50am 'O' c...

Re: BY TRAM TO RANDWICK..Questions

Thanks Frosty re the Depot title.

Seems a lot of dead mileage to go out to Lillyfields for a service an then back, particularly as running coats will count for the lessee of the system. Like you though, Ihad read that no servicing at Randwick [....yet].

Re: BY TRAM TO RANDWICK..Questions

Thanks Boronia and Captain Inch for the info.
As regards the connecting line from the Stabling Yards [ perhaps to be called " Randwick Depot "??], maybe once the lines are operational, commonsense will suggest Carlton St be used for connections between the depot and the Kingsford line.

BY TRAM TO RANDWICK..Questions

Happened to travel along Anzac Parade yesterday, not having been out that way for some time. Noticed the new bridge across same to bring tracks to line up with the old tram right-of -way, and also the fresh work along the old tramway between Centennial Pk & Allison Road, opposite the racecourse. I h...

Re: duple yeoman purchase

I do remember these vehicles in the 1950's as members of the Pykes Tours fleet. Always struck by their oh-so-different body design as compared to the other various fleets in service in Sydney. I have always been intrigued as to how the destination sign set within the bumper bar was actually changed,...

Re: Newcastle's famous trambus

Thanks for the clarification Boronia. The sign on the Newcastle 'tram' is of course fixed, as I found to my disappointment some years ago, so whether the box is upside down doesn't matter in terms of the sign rotating. Always thought it a pity the owner hadn't fitted a copy of the original NEWCASTLE...

Is it true there will be no more new RED buses plying the Metro routes. I notice on the Metro rts servicing Castle Hill [Hillsbus ones], more and more yellow or TNSW liveries are appearing on Metro Rts.

Re: Putting CSELR in George Street Sydney

Perhaps one could say re trams [ultimately] replacing most buses permanently in George St, as part of Sydney's new light Rail Lystem. no pain, no gain !!

Will be interesting to see what is found when George St City is dug up. I suspect most of the tram track from the old tramways is in situ !!

" The somewhere " referred to IS the Oxford St Woollahra reserve about 1-2 klms west of WAVERLEY DEPOTon the BONDI / BRONTE lines. The flat area behind the trams is the 'roof' of the famous Sydney Water Reservoir , itself just inside Centennial Park.
