Re: Bus Routes - What would you do if you were in charge?

Interested to see thoughts of Redcliffe and High Wycombe station bus networks. Good to compare in a year when the real thing is published Simple lazy option for Redcliffe is to just terminate 39, 284, 935 there. Also deviate 36 via there. And for High Wycombe terminate 295, 296, 299 there. Extend 2...

The next stage, as advised on the Tenders website, will be an industry briefing on September 23 at 12am (sic). Tenders close 19 October. The site has also been updated with substantial background information on the existing services and what's needed. There is also a description of existing operatio...

Re: DoT snipping cable on its 'classic' PTV website (save things now!)

What ever happened to the melbournebybus.com.au website, its still mentioned on this page: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/news-and-events/media-releases/2017/05/12/explore-the-world-of-melbourne-by-bus/ Good find. It was only there as a short marketing thing, despite the effort gone to with the map and...

Want to see maps for all routes that look so good you wished they were your curtains or bedsheets?

Here's a scraping by Darren Stewart, saved here.

DoT snipping cable on its 'classic' PTV website (save things now!)

DoT is snipping the cable on its 'classic' PTV website on Wednesday September 9. Soon only the new (and often inferior) site will be available. It could be wise to save things you value (eg maps and pdf timetables) that are only available via the classic website. More here: https://melbourneontransi...

Note that it's very early days and we don't yet know how and where the new contract will be different to that Transdev operates under.

Re: What are Melbourne's longest bus routes?

That's a tricky one. WIth only one or two trips per day on a country-style service arguably it's a historical oddity that it has a metropolitan route number at all.

Re: 2021 Melbourne bus retendering

There are several possibilities, though it's too early to tell. In the last 10 years both CDC and Transit Systems have established large enough presences in Melbourne to be considered credible operators should they wish to put in. KDR, who runs Yarra Trams, unsuccessfully bid last time. They operate...

2021 Melbourne bus retendering

Those signed up to receive information on Victorian government tenders will have received advice that the DoT will be retendering the Metropolitan Bus Franchise that delivers around 30% of Melbourne's bus services. An industry briefing session will be held later this month (date to be advised). Ther...

Re: PTA/Transperth approach to bus network reform

Whose blog is that? Mine. Large parts of the Perth network look like they need reform, although difficult street layouts don't help. Eg Hamilton Hill/Coobellup south-east of Fremantle have a lot of routes including some legacy routes to the CBD dating from before the train (although they are old ho...

PTA/Transperth approach to bus network reform

Adelaide's last attempt at reforming its bus network failed due to political opposition. Perth takes a more gradual approach. This blog post discusses how it's done, with reference to the new routes 915 & 26 and the declining Route 103. https://melbourneontransit.blogspot.com/2020/07/timetable-tuesd...

Re: How bus revamp will get commuters moving faster.

Having said this, I don't know a lot about Melbourne PT, so I could just as easily speculate in a similar style about a particular place that is a reasonable distance from the CBD. It's a ghost town that's been taken over by gangs. Yes it's quiet (midweek) but the National Rail Museum is great.
