Re: The Bus Australia Forum - now and the future
The Forum has been, and remains, a great resource for enthusiasts. You don't have to post material to access past information. Unlike Facebook, it is easy to search past topics. I am glad that Geoff still gives his time to provide the resource to us. As long as people are not abusive towards others,...

What's the body/serial number? It should be on a builder's plate which looks like this above the front windows.

Re: 1969 Austin 2.45 FG Anyone recognise?
After a bit of searching, here is a John Masterton photo taken in 1969 of KFK 096 for L J Coon of Waubra when it was pretty new (5/69). Alas, it was afraid of getting wet and was hiding in the garage. But the front looks like Kelli's bus:

Re: Tram on Bell Street
In 1950, the then operator of the Bell Street bus route (a partnership of Bill King Snr and Wally Laidlaw) offered to sell to MMTB for £20,000 but the Board declined. It would have been MMTB buses, not trams. Instead, the Board went into the West Heidelberg area in 1956 and in 1961 purchased the Cit...

Alf Maugher was the son-in-law of Franklin Henstridge and managed Henstridge BS along side John Henstridge - Franklin's son. After establishing the Road King business to run Adelaide to Melbourne services in 1963, they acquired the Greyhound franchise for the southern region in 1968 from Russell Pen...

Re: C.A.C/Comair:The history.
This bus has a PMC (Pressed Metal Corporation) body, which was a Sydney company. These ceased making bus bodies about 20 years ago. Maybe one of our NSW enthusiasts might recognise it.

Re: Hunters Hill coaches
Hi system improver can you fill us in the history of the Reo as the article from Truck and Bus that GM posted seemed to imply that all the pusher Reo's imported at the time went to Syd Wood. Was there another importation or was the Grummet vehicle a one off. ???????? There is a gap in what we thoug...

Re: Syd Wood, bus builders, 1912-1962
An interesting example of a Syd Wood forward entrance bus that was also an early NSW example of a centre door was MO 5473, operated by Deanes out of Chatswood (a route later taken over by N&W). I never recall seeing this bus at Chatswood myself and wonder when it dates from (looks like c1960) a...

Re: Syd Wood, bus builders, 1912-1962
...Anybody know anything about the Adelaide-Kilburn service? This was owned by H F (Frank) Morphett which continued on to 1974 when acquired by the MTT. At that stage, they had about 20 buses. The Syd Wood bodied bus was on a Reo chassis and was apparently licensed to carry 60 passengers. Most of M...

Re: Melbourne Bus Services Contracts (Current)
What does the Skybus contract cover for $1.00? At least the Southern Cross to Melbourne Airport service. The contract payment is peppercorn because the fares are set by a cost plus rule, dating from the original contract in 2002. It also means that no other operator can run the service because it's...

Re: US Buses in Australia
How wide were they please? 96 inches (2.44 metres), the maximum width in Australia at the time both the PD4106 and PD 4107 were introduced. Later versions in the US were 102 inches wide (2.59m) which is the most popular width in the US these days for coaches. The current maximum width in Australia ...

Peter, they weren't delivered until 1966 to the (then) Department of the Capital Territory. They have a PMC body with a centre door and were delivered in 1966, along with some Leopards to the same design. They were sold off after the arrival of the CAC bodied MAN SL200 buses from 1975, over the peri...
