Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Changing metro frequency at short notice for extraordinary circumstances? With major disruptions to regular Sydney trains this morning that are likely to last the entire day, plus the official advice from the various Sydney Trains twitter feeds to "consider catching metro", what is the li...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
That is not true. Many heavy rail stations near new Metro stations have experienced a double-digit drop in passenger numbers, therefore providing ample capacity for population growth moving forward and relief for existing overcrowding in the peaks. The Metro now also provides a proper alternative d...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
That's a load of BS and you know it. The metro is certainly a great improvement over the existing Sydney Trains network, considering how much the latter has been starved of adequate funding by successive governments over the decades, but a similar level of service could have been provided if the go...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
The success of the metro is down to the fact that it was built, not because it was built as a metro. Had it been built as an extension of the Sydney Trains network, it would still be far superior to the legacy network and people would still be raving about it, even though it would have been ultimat...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
A concise summary of recent times in Sydney: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nniSbojfi3I I don't entirely agree with his comment that some of the improved speed is down to the metro having less stations. That may be true on the city section, but when we stretch it further and compare stretches of bo...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
As much as you like to endlessly tell us it is, speed isn't the only game in town. Plenty of people will sacrifice a quicker journey for comfort as has been stated many times on this forum. The incumbent government was elected on a commitment to build (or at least fund studies for) less metro lines...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Getting a seat doesn't seem to be as big a deal as the double deck advocates make out. One thing that is evident on the metro over the past few years and currently is the number of people who choose to stand, even when there are seats available. I don't think it"s one of the factors influencing...

Re: Panel 4 vs Panel 3
No right or wrong answer as to which is best, each has their pros and cons. En-route charging allows for lighter buses with increased capacity, but reduces productivity, comes down to operator preference. Some have experimented with en-route charging and embraced it, others have but still gone for ...

Re: Panel 4 vs Panel 3
The original point made was that high capacity EVs are heavy, and with Australia having lower axle load allowances than other countries, it is possible that they may be too heavy. Time will tell whether this is the case. With a much smaller battery pack, a high capacity bus will weigh little more t...

Re: Panel 4 vs Panel 3
Why would it exceed the weight regs? Because EVs are always heavier than their diesel equivalents. Bustech, BYD, Custom Denning and Yutong electrics all have tare weights of over 13 tonnes, while equivalent sized diesel buses are in the 11 - 12 tonne range. Extrapolate that to an articulated double...

Re: Panel 4 vs Panel 3
I might note the above link has specifications for an "Articulated Deck Zero Emissions Bus" - I hope that's a typo because I doubt such a vehicle will meet NSW weight requirements even when empty. I would think that the redundant "deck" would come from a copy and paste of double...

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Sydney people don't have a good record witb free buses at least when the free shuttle was going in the CBD. I'm guessing all doors entry is out of the question? It would help. If TfNSW's thinking is still the same as for the Gong Shuttle, they prefer to have the driver counting boardings rather tha...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.
Do bus manufacturers offer a flat floor model for the Australian market and if so then it's upto individual operators to pick it as government transport agencies allow the operators to pick what chassis/body combo they want which go more towards the models that need the raised floor section because...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.
Still thinking a high floor behind the single pane centre door is latest as long as it's electric. The Express BZL is a fully low floor bus. Three full width doors, flat floor throughout, entry and exit all doors or it is a backwater. Could that be a thing in a right hand drive country like Austral...

Sydney. The city of could have would have should haves its whole existence! As once Premier Nathan Reese said when queried about the quality of workmanship on the Chatswood Epping Rail Link, would you rather we didn't build it at all? This is the calibre of administrations we typically have. Be gra...

The former government put over $3 billion into Sydney Trains for more trains, more services. The metro was funded from asset recycling. It owes Sydney Trains nothing.Transtopic wrote: ↑Sun Aug 25, 2024 12:05 am Probably because Sydney Trains has been starved of funding to pay for the metro.

Re: Sydney Metro - Tallawong to Bankstown
Indeed the Chatswood to Sydenham section looks quite out of character compared to the rest of the network - my first words upon stepping into Gadigal was 'this does not look like Sydney'. Truly world class though that phrase has practically lost all meaning considering how often politicians use it....

Re: Other Body Builders Discussion / Observations
Yes but few operators look at build or design quality. In the Australian market cost seems to be the main concern, and the Custom Denning Element is among the most expensive BEBs on the market. In NSW, with the government paying for buses and having a minimum Australian manufacture requirement (50%...
