Re: Timetable Changes 2024
Newcastle services moving from their xx 15 and xx 45 Central departures to xx:20 and xx:50. Blue Mountains services moving from xx:18 to xx:09. Lithgow off peak frequencies increased to hourly. The express 08:48 to Lithgow that only makes six stops, becomes the 08:55 and makes 17 stops, Likewise its...

Re: Southwest Link Observations
Discussion of what buses are being operated is fine, but making unfounded suggestions that an operator may be breaching its contract is not. It was always likely that some region 3 or 6 buses might find their way onto Southwest Link work at some stage.

in this current anti-artic regime, there aren't enough of them to go around. The 'anti-artic regime' was a one of those policy thought bubbles of Andrew Constance from seven years ago , Constance being renowned for making announcements with little or no consultation with the industry or his departm...

Re: Bus Observations 2024.
I recall this discussion from a few years back and the point that Region 6 is interlaced with high-capacity rail and light rail lines and shouldn't need high capacity buses, which are better allocated to regions without rail or light rail lines. Having other modes close by doesn't mean region 6 ser...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements

Fast growing suburb being eyed for passenger train link (Sydney Morning Herald) Once again, coming back to t...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Funny, that practice ceased with 2DD suburban trains years ago. Doesn't happen in Sydney, but still does outside. At least one afternoon Sydney - Newcastle service divides at Gosford while Xplorers divide and merge at Goulburn and Werris Creek. Not sure if they actually see any servicing per se, bu...

Re: Timetable Changes 2024
I am guessing that the Erskineville and St Peters stops have been added to some T4 services at the expense of Rockdale and Kogarah to allow overall journey times to be maintained. The reason for the temporary T8 suspension appears to be to allow the Bankstown line to be severed at the southern end o...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Menangle itself is some considerable distance from Macarthur and will likely not have anything there worth serving with an electric service for a very long time. Menangle Park is seven kilometres from Macarthur, Menagle a further three. There has been, and will continue to be, significant developme...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
...considerable amount of upzoning to R3 (and development following it) that has been occurring along the intercity rail lines, no more so than around stations through the southern highlands where there is a lot of land that isn't bushfire or flood prone. So there's obviously a necessity for improv...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Take the 119 - the 320 before it provided a direct trip to the city and the east. There was clearly demand for this despite a rail line existing in the area, as the 320 was regularly packed. The 119 is not required as there are enough parallel services to carry the load. As often happens, certain a...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Sometimes there just isn't the demand. We are seeing that on some of the region 7 services as noted here . Running SHL services through to Central wouldn't save 25 minutes. Part of the reason the 08:36 from Moss Vale to Central is 25 minutes quicker than the preceding 07:54 and following 09:22 with ...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Of course improving services should grow patronage. Sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn't. A reasonable period of time should be given for patronage to grow and attempts made to promote additional services, but there comes a time to accept the demand simply isn't there and for services to...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Still happens. NSW TrainLink have introduced various coach services on a trial basis over the last decade . Some were deemed successful and made permanent, some were not and thus withdrawn. Likewise there have been attempts by operators to run services from Marulan , Goulburn and Cooma to Canberra. ...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
So services that are hardly being used should continue to operate ad infinitum on the off chance that patronage may one day grow? Of course not, there comes a point when time has to be called. New services should be introduced or frequencies increased when it becomes apparent that their introduction...

T3 services that are now operating via Regents Park are calling at Redfern, Newtown, Stanmore, Petersham, Lewisham, Ashfield and Burwood on the Inner West line. The T2 Homebush and Parramatta services still call at all stops. The extra T3 stops are most likely to avoid it catching the all stops serv...

Re: Southern Highlands Line Trackwork Improvements
Two services a day is a long way short of the hourly service from Moss Vale that you are advocating for. While there is nothing particularly inspiring about Macarthur or Campbelltown, Lithgow station doesn't have much going for it either, and with up to 25 stops, the connecting service to Central is...

The SHL has the same arrangement as the Bathurst service, the latter being a limited through service with a change required during the rest of the day at Lithgow.
